I wonder how many other creepers are waiting to unveil themselves, haha welcome guys

She was deliberately and successfully being very ambiguous.

So you’d say that God made the universe so big in order to humble us?

MangoFloat, just post your username on the Pledge Thread.

babykid, I think the secretary was just expressing a courtesy. I doubt she would’ve said “LOL you got REJECTED” to you. Likewise, I don’t think she would’ve announced whether you got deferred or accepted over the phone to you.

Good luck Yalies! (Yalies? Yale-ites? Whatever. Good luck!)

Well, my religion is complicated, I’m a Christian Scientist if you care to look it up. But I guess I’ve never really thought about the universe’s size that way. I would say it’s big in order to induce awe, and make us realize that what’s really, truly important has nothing to do with human wants, needs, or material things, but everything to do with God and his love for us. Getting deep here haha.

CantConcentrate, that is reassuring.

Side note: I noticed that several people posted that they are interested in majoring in music at Yale. I just wanted to make sure that you guys know that there is no music performance major at Yale. (From the website: “Qualified students, whether majoring in Music or not, may offer up to four terms of instruction in performance for academic credit.”)

That said, the ensembles (especially the YSO) are awesome. It’s definitely a great school if you want to keep playing music at a high level, but you want to study other things.

Pretty nice.

I’m an Agnostic Humanist. For me, whether God exists or not, the end all, be all is the intrinsic bond between one another that we humans have all inherited and collectively built together. This bond creates and justifies our duty to one another and saves me from the nihilism that has characterized a lot of my teenage years. Like you, my ethic is agapist to feel and express compassionate love for every human being.

I explicitly don’t believe in the classical idea of God we’ve inherited from Western culture, but I love to study religion, and I respect everyone who practices their faiths intelligently. Christianity, in particular, has lots of great social ethical ideas (and some bad ones, but).

These days, I’ve been exploring Buddhist belief systems.

Strawberry Swing is great, too. Reject or Accept.

Agapists for the win! The tough part is going to be loving those admissions officers should I get rejected/deferred…

But if you struggle with nihilism, I would suggest looking at Christian Science. Not the pop culture portrayal, but actually reading Science and Health. It’s great stuff.

going back to the topic of the last page… my CA was about how there is an ideal ratio of sleeping hours in the day, and I explained why my sleep ratio is so low. my supplement was about why I love the internet… well, it was more about how growing up with the internet has affected me.

@wackymole any tips for surviving on little sleep?

@redboldx don’t stop moving. I don’t drink coffee or tea because I hate going to the bathroom during school, haha. So if I don’t want to fall asleep during school or late at night or whenever, I have to get up and do a quick work out or even just a quick run up and down the stairs.

of course, it does catch up to you sometimes. once in a while, a good nap is in order :)

My “what would you do if you had a free day tomorrow” was something along the lines of cleaning my room, because my mom’s been badgering about it. Honest truth. Haha. Risky, but it’s totally something I would say if caught off-guard at an interview… and I’m okay with that!

How about your short takes? I tried to have fun with mine… one of them is about how I may be destined to be a cat lady.

I sort of straddled the line between casual/risky and serious. For one of them, I said I wished I was more of a pessimist. ;)

I think I may have been a bit too intense with my yale short takes, but I think they’re honest and thats all that matters. I had fun with my the short writing part on the common app, I mentioned how during an event I was running all the dogs would non-chalantly pee on the floor while I scrambled to clean up

haha, I tried to have fun as well. I think I said I would go to a bookstore and smell all the books for the free day one… books smell so delicious.

what did you guys put for the thing you wish you were better at?

Being more of a pessimist, haha.

I said I wish I were better at speaking my mind because I often stay quiet for fear of offending other people.
