Yale Class of 2017 SCEA Discussion thread

NUS shortlisted me for an interview! I didn’t end up taking it (= auto rejection from NUS), but that means they at least like me a little… It would’ve been nice just to have a liiiittle more hope for Friday.

I kinda have to agree with Philovist. I didnt send my application to NUS. I have no desire to go to singapore for college which I assume the reason for the hate is. Also, NUS is not the same thing as Yale no matter what Yale would like you to believe.

I think getting shortlisted for an interview is a good sign that Yale likes what you have to offer, I actually really enjoyed my interview.

I really like everything I saw about NUS (their philosophy towards education, the cross cultural/international aspect, etc), but I would not be able to handle four years in Singapore. If just for the weather alone.

Well it’s fine if you don’t want to go to NUS, you don’t have to disparage it though, saying you would toss the acceptance in the trash.

It’s pretty haughty of you to say something like that, Philovitist. I remember another thread in which people were calling you a jackass for some other comments you had made. I’m sure you don’t want that reputation. If you do get into Yale, please don’t carry a bad personality with you.

Where do we check our decisions this friday? and what time? my eli account never seems to work

5 PM on Friday

@arindia556 ,no, but I know someone who is currently in it at Yale.

I agree with arindia556. It’s okay if you don’t like NUS. That’s perfectly fine. Just don’t disparage and bash the college just because you don’t like it.

I cant log in to my eli account??? it worked yesterday… anyone else having this problem?

I…would give it a nice spot on my dresser?

Bad personality? Whaaat? I think you’re jumping to hypercriticism.

It’s just that I’m not at all interested in going to NUS. I’d rather go somewhere where it’s not illegal to be who I am. The fact of the matter is that Yale-NUS will be different from Yale in all the ways that makes Yale attractive to me.

Yale-NUS would be one of the worst places for me to end up. It’s not that the college sucks — it’s that I wouldn’t ever go in a million years.

Singapore’s laws are just really salient for me.

And I can respect that, Philo :)

Yeah, looks like they’re prepping. I can’t login either, it just takes me back to the page I was just on when I try.

I’ve been lurking around this thread today… it seems like you all kind of know each other by now.

Anyone else feel like they’re going to be sick? I tend to overreact-- even checking my SAT scores took me forever for me to do. I don’t know how I’m going to be able to log in on Friday. I keep focusing on the moment right when my brain registers the results, which is why I’m getting so anxious.

I was for a really long time — basically my whole high school career — but changed my mind over the summer. I just wanted to have more flexibility during college.

Are you?

I was shaking when I checked my ACT results and opened the email for a scholarship program last year… I reaaaaally don’t want to check college stuff.

On the plus side, both of those were really good news! :)

my eli account still works…

Good luck everyone! Try to focus on other things until Friday afternoon.
