I’m conflicted on how to reply. Philo makes a good point for the socially awkward/bad interviewee – avoid closer examination and hope to fly under the radar and sneak in. I get that strategy.

On behalf of Yale, admissions likes data – like the interview report. Often it doesn’t matter but if obtainable, they like to have it. For Yale, I hope that everyone gets interviewed.

For the applicant on the bubble, a positive report can nudge things fwd – but no applicant would ever know he/she is in that situation.

If a person ignores a contact request by an alum, that is reported back to Yale without further comment. What Yale does with that is unknown by me.

I applied on November 3rd (day before deadline). I got a confirmation email with a 9 digit ID number. I just want to confirm that this is not the Eli Account number, correct? I have already been contacted for an interview though.

I feel like they can only assume that you didn’t get the request. An email from a Princeton alumni definitely got sent to my account, but did it accidentally get spam filtered? A phone call might have been made, but was I around to answer it? Might there be a type in the number that was dialed? Are any of these good reasons to reject me?

But yeah, if you have the means to ensure your interview knocks the alumnus’s yale blue socks off - by all means, do knock freely.

With other schools, interviews are an important way to show you’re very invested in the possibility of attending them. But this is HYPblahblah.

My D got her eli account and checked her status. We found something interesting. My daughter asked three teachers A, B, C for LOR. Both B and C submitted theirs online and A used a paper LOR. My D assigned teacher A and B on her Yale’s application. Letter from A was mailed to Yale using USPS. To our surprise, on her eli account, it shows that letters from B and C are received and no info about A. We talked about it and my D said all letters should be good and we decided not to do anything.

However, I think this could cause trouble for some students who would like to tailor their LOR to different schools. It seems that at this moment all LOR are sent to all schools no matter whether they are assigned or not from Common Application.

Hi all Can any one tell me - do athletic recruits get interviewed off campus often?? SCEA??? Child is definitely a recruit. THe request came suddenly right after the time had started for the review by admissions. OV had happened and all that, but there was no on campus interview.any info at all welcome thanks very much

“often”? Yale tries to interview everyone not offered an on-campus interview. Since your kid is an SCEA applicant, he/she is definitely on a prioritized list. But it has nothing to do with his/her OV or recruitment status however.

I’ve interviewed athlete recruits and was instructed to treat them like typical applicants. Whatever maneuvering the coaches may or may not be doing behind the scenes is outside the ken of volunteer interviewers. Good luck to your son/daughter however.

T26E4, I didn’t know that Yale makes a distinction between applicants who have done on-campus interviews and those who haven’t. . . . So, if I did on-campus interview, is it unlikely that I will do an alumni interview?

Given that local alumni groups are struggling to give people even ONE interview, all those who have had on-campus interviews are given the lowest priority. While it’s possible, I’d say it’s very unlikely.

So I set up my Eli account and what-not and it says on the applicant’s page that the school report has not been received despite the fact that it says “downloaded” on my CA. Has anyone else encountered this snag?
