Yale Class of 2018 SCEA Discussion thread

@awesomenerd: the probs w/common app this year had many EA/ED schools extending deadlines and thus, some decision announcement dates

I feel quite nervous now waiting for the final decision. Reflecting on my application, I am worried if the admission officers could see the real me. Itā€™s certainly sad if someone is rejected because he/she submitted an imperfect applicationā€¦Anyway, I did invest my full energy in the process, so I guess thatā€™s the best I can do. Gotta work on other applications right now! Good luck to all of you.

My son was just interviewed, had a similar experience but he was very nervous which may have added to his feelings of ā€œI screwed it upā€

awesomenerd: Decisions are first announced/received through your Eli account. Everyone will be logging-in at 5pm EST on the 17th.

Hopefully it will say Congrats and start to play you a song :)

Of course, the reality also remains that 84-86% (on average) of all SCEA applicants will face some form of disappointment on that dayā€¦ and then only 5% (on average) of those deferred will be finally accepted RD. It is thus wise to not be too invested in just one school. Yale is likely to only accept 7% of all applicants after all.

I personally ended up being accepted to and attending my 3rd choice (JHU), and it all still worked out well.

Best of luck to all applicantsā€¦ and if you are admitted that day, also buy a lottery ticket - as the #s were simply in your favor that day :)

16 D, 3H, 15M & countingā€¦

How were your guys interviews?

Mine was 2 hours long, and the interviewer never even asked my a question. We just talked about life.

mine went well  my interviewer studied Asian History and so did her family (who all went to yale) and it was very interesting!

Mine was fun too, we just chatted about random stuff. He was pretty young so it wasnā€™t awkward for me at all, and we both cracked jokes and laughed. Basically I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

As a side note, he was really attractive. I say that a straight male just making an observation :P.

lol  nice

Well Whisper12 that sounds like a pretty good interview

My interview was soooo chilled. Nothing like Cambridge interviews!

My D was hoping for the opportunity to interview, but she has only had the Brown (RD) interview thus far.

I have had no interviews yet :frowning: Any tips from people who have interviewed already?

No interviews here eitherā€¦

I asked my interviewer if there was a lot of elitism on campus, and he said ā€œOH YEAH, THEREā€™s TONS OF THAT, AND IT COMES IN EVERY SIZE SHAPE AND FORM!!ā€

It seems that applicants are simply at the mercy of each school. They will either be offered an interview or they will not. Hopefully it is fully a matter of timing and/or availability and not indicative of any pre-judgment regarding the admissions committee. And looking at the previous decision thread, this seems to hold trueā€¦ as a # of those accepted were also not interviewed. I guess that time will tell in each individual caseā€¦

Perhaps your interviewer wrote for the Yale Recordā€¦ Think about it; if the elitism occurs in every possible manner then the sentiment is universal and ergo not elite.

Putting the jesting aside-

My kid has a large group of friends and all seem to be down to earth and super friendly with remarkably good social skills. Some are rich and some are poor and everything in between. Many went to prep schools but several of those were low income scholarship kids. You are going to find an astoundingly diverse and pleasant group of students at Yale.

yo I applied scea last year and didnā€™t get an interview until 3 or 4 days before the deadline. i got in. itā€™s pretty random.

Thanksā€¦ it seems fairly random.

My biggest gripe about the whole system is that I just wish I knew where I was going to college. Because of SCEA the odds of me knowing where Iā€™m going to college before march is about 7 percent

i wish they would let us know as soon as they made the decisionā€¦oh well 15.5 days away
