That’s impressive

@Jazzed:
Unfortunately, yes. Common app refused to initialize the pdf forms of my applications for several hours, still no luck after restarting the computer and updating Adobe reader… ultimately I had to submit them (at 12:00:05) without viewing.
(Oh common app site, how you trouble me!)
Anyone else have this issue? I’m debating contacting someone in admissions to explain the circumstances surrounding my app submission… I’m worried it now falls under the just-missed-the-deadline category.

Lots of clerical staff go through and match and upload many documents to your eventual file. This includes everything submitted through Common App, scores, outside documents. Regional officers are going through initial reads currently. So the sorting process has already begun.

I see lots of nervousness here and everywhere else about EA/ED documents: “have they been accepted?” “I’ve not gotten notification!” etc.

The colleges have navigated this season after season and processed countless thousands of apps. Please trust in their systems. If anything comes up missing, they won’t just shunt your file aside – they contact you or your GC for the missing docs.

As unbelievable as it may seem: the colleges are happy you applied and are looking for a way to admit you. They aren’t a cabal of black-robed inquisitors vying to see how many student egos they can crush.

Did anyone else use italics in their essays? When I previewed both my CA and supplement essays the italicized words were formatted altogether weird, like off center and rather large/clunky. I tried multiple things but nothing fixed it so I just left it. What’s weird is I also sent my CA essay to UVM and the same issue did not occur when previewing the PDF. I know it’s hardly a big deal but I’m curious as to whether anyone else encountered the same issue

Yes, same italics issue. Apparently it’s a known problem.

Jazzed, my son italicized a few words in his essay and it appeared the same way you described it. He submitted as is.

@Marioandluigi Yeah, I also got ‘downloaded’ written next to the recommendations. I submitted my app last Wednesday.

I had a problem with the preview as well. My essay text box had the word “with” with all the alphabets together in the word. However, when I generated the pdf, it kept reading “wit” at the end of one sentence and “h” in the beginning of the next. Do you think they will know it was a problem with CA4 or will I come off as a total fool?

I also had the italics problem and assumed that they would realize that everyone who had italicized words was formatted weird.

@longing4yale I think they will realize that commonapp has had a lot of formatting issues this year and assume you know how to spell with. I talked to the admissions officer that came to my school and he said that this year has been hectic and they will be more forgiving on essay formatting issues because of common app problems

when do admissions decisions come out?

Dec. 17, I believe

Last year they came out on a friday, so it may be december 13th. Friday the 13th…great haha

How are you guys gonna celebrate if you get in?

Dance around the house and eat a huge tub of ice cream :)

I submitted my Yale application on October 27th, but have not got Eli account yet. Nor did I get contacted for interview. If you are in a similar situation and received Eli account already would you post it in this thread? I will also post when I hear back from Yale!

ClimbUptheIvy,

Have you received a confirmation email with your student ID from Yale?

Well, I’m an international student (from the UK), and it took roughly 2 weeks to get my Eli account and my interview arranged in London. Hang in there, so long as you’ve submitted it all there’s no need to panic. :)

I would celebrate with the biggest steak you’ve ever seen.

No, I have not received any email or call from Yale after October 27th. Does Yale send out such confirmation IDs?

Yes. Others have reported that they received that email with ID, if you look back on this discussion.
