nice job on the 770. Yale does superscore—they look at the best scores, but you send them all in.

good luck!

Thank you sir, are you applying as well? If so good luck, and thank you for the information. If not, just the latter!

My interview lasted almost 2 hours and my interviewer was really polite. However, I’m pretty sure I didn’t come off as eloquent as I wish I would have but c’est la vie.

I’m kinda stressed because I STILL haven’t been contacted by alums in my area and I live in a big metropolitan area so I can’t think of any possible reasons besides the fact that they legitimately don’t have interest in me. Would it be appropriate to take actions and contact my regional admissions person to ask why? I know on their website not everyone can get an interview, but I still would like to know how they decide who does end up getting interviews…

@citiusaltius From what I can tell it’s fairly random. I think interviewers just get a list and do as many as they can. It’s tough with the Early Action deadline. A freshman representative from Yale visited my school last year and he got in without having an interview. I also haven’t been contacted for an interview and I live very close to a large metropolitan area. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Some day, when I have loads and loads of time (ie, probably never), I am going to go through a large sample of threads and count how often applicants are told, by people who know, not to worry about not getting an interview and also count how many applicants are stressed by not getting an interview (yet).

@IxnayBob even if you managed to do that and wrote a persuasive article on how interviews don’t matter, people (including me) would still be stressed by not getting an interview purely due to the fact that we are human beings (and therefore self-aware and analytical). Humans feel the need to assign meaning to everything

@citiusaltius, please notice that I never said that interviews don’t matter, because they can. They can especially serve to personalize the application process, and in my son’s case, strengthened his desire to be accepted, and if accepted, to attend.

But, the logistics are frequently random, and there isn’t a coded message to be read when one does not get an interview.

When I re-read what I wrote (too late to edit it), I realized that I might have given an impression different to what I intended. Last year, my son got both senior and alumni interviews, and while he knew enough not to make a big deal of it, I was convinced it meant something :)

Anyway, good luck!

Just out of curiosity, how many people here plan to apply to Harvard RD?

@TIJANAS I got my e-mail for the interview last night, and it will be a skype interview, she was actually really nice! I think we will have a pleasant conversation

@louisa2019er I’ll apply RD to Harvard only if Yale rejects or defers me.

@TweedWearingBrit

Woo! Another applicant from the UK. Where are you from?

@TweedWearingBrit

yup! gap-year applicant—reapplying. and not a problem!

side note: just got sat II scores in… not what I was hoping for. SAT I score is good, though. hoping the sat IIs don’t break my chances. everything else looks to be in good shape, though.

Hey guys. I got my SAT II math scores yesterday, got an 800. Do you think I should send them to Yale now? I already sent them my ACT so idk if sending SAT II scores would help.

@Dannnn

if your other scores aren’t as good as your ACT score, no need. remember, Yale sees all scores, not just the ones you want them to.

of course, an 800 is something to brag about, so if you feel good about them seeing other scores, go for it.

Does anyone have any data on how many students have been accepted from the UK in previous years, and what Yale looks for? Thanks

If I sent my ACT and my SAT I, but not my horrible SAT II scores, they will not see those right?

nope @artgirl1216 they only see what you send them. if you don’t send any more SAT score reports they won’t see your updated scores.

Actually @artgirl1216 and @billymayshere, if you are to send in any SAT score, you are required to send in all SAT scores, including scores for any subject tests taken. The same thing holds true for ACT scores.

@billymayshere - I didn’t receive any scores I wouldn’t want them seeing. I only took 1 SAT II / session since I was super busy. I did the French test and got an 800 as well the month before. The math score I received yesterday is the only one I did in that session - I’m not hiding any others.
