@1203Southview - I don’t think a letter from a recruiter/interviewer is going to make any difference unless they were someone that was going to write a letter anyway. I am almost totally sure a letter of recommendation coming from me about a candidate would have no more weight than any other. May have less, especially if they only reason for my writing the letter was my tenuous status as an interviewer.

Having just gone through this process with my D myself, make sure that the teacher recommendations are strong. Pick teachers that know your child and will write good insightful recommendations. Please don’t just have her pick someone because they will gush about how great your kid is. That will not make them stand out.

I read packages for a scholarship program (not related to Yale) and teacher recs usually make or break the application for me - especially if all other factors are equal. Is that fair? Probably not. Is it reality? Yes.

This year was usually hot for the first couple of weeks. Since then it has settled to perfect New England weather. My D has really bad allergies. Having to keep windows open for circulation was making her miserable for awhile but that has passed. And like you IxnayBob, I doubt any of that is high on her list of things that colored her first few weeks.

@CardioParty - those doorways are called entryways and there in each one consisting generally of a common room and bedrooms (some singles, some doubles). There are no cookie cutter rooms or dorms at Yale, rooms within the same dorm can be totally different. Some may have fireplaces, some may have window seats. That is one of the main beauties of the campus - its uniqueness.

Hi everybody! I’m a little late to join the discussion, but I just found this thread as I am new to college confidential! I am thrilled to see that others are interested in astrophysics as well, because the physics and astronomy major is my main reason in applying to Yale early! I loved the campus and the people on my visit this year so I’ll send in my application soon and just see what happens!

Good luck to everyone! I am also an applicant doing EA, submitted my common app back in September; however, there seemed to be some trouble with my ACT scores getting over to Yale Good thing I had everything ready pretty early!

How are everyone’s applications coming along? Got my transcript sent over on Friday, so I finally have all the components of my application at Yale as of right now!

@slights32 The admissions committee works year round; it’s not like they only work beginning November 1st. From what I understand, submitting your application early gives the admissions staff more time to look over your application.

I’ve been a CC lurker for a while now, and I just wanted to pop in to say I’m also applying SCEA to Yale. I’m submitting this week and I’m not too concerned about when admissions receives it, as long as it’s before the deadline!

The deadline is November 1 for SCEA. There is nothing to be gained from submitting it early. My D hit the send button near the end of October and is now happily at Yale as a freshman. Take your time, read over your app and make sure its puts your best foot forward. However, I would not wait until October 31 because anything can happen (your server could go out, your computer could crash, you could get rushed to the ER) that would prevent you from hitting “send” before midnight. Good luck to all of you - applicants and parents alike. I was in your shoes last year. It does get better.

Hello everyone! I am an international from Zimbabwe. I am glad to see I am not the only one to submit my application early. I took a gap year so I had the WHOLE year to get my application just right. Any way all the best to everyone!

“Although the Single-Choice Early Action submission deadline is November 1, we encourage you to submit your materials to us sooner. The earlier your application is completed - including the Common Application and Yale-specific questions, the necessary school documents, and your fee or fee waiver request - the sooner we can begin to evaluate it. While this will not result in a competitive advantage for applicants, it will allow ample time for review of your application.”
