Yale Class of 2020 applicants

For my Common App essay, I wrote about a particular instance in which I challenged an event that was founded on a racial stereotype. Hopefully they aren’t too sick of this conversation considering the tensions on campus as of late.
For my extra essay, I talked about how singing (namely choir) has shaped me as a person… it was a little bland, but I thought it was alright

The essay topics seem so wonderful! Like, I wanna read all of them!!

@gabe211212, that topic seems wonderful! It is good that you love yourself for being gay! Being open about yourself will cause you to be more happy and succeed in life, and who knows- you are probably inspiring some other gay person with your pride towards yourself. Keep it up! Good Luck!!

@potatoprincess, I’m gonna guess that your choir essay was more than alright  !! I’m sure they won’t be sick of the conversation!!! Even though your first essay reflects the tensions going on at the campus, it will serve to emphasize the importance of racial justice!!! My essay is similar and I thought that they were also going to be "sick: of it, but then I came to the realization that writing an essay about sterotypes will only make it easier for them to connect to- it will give them a good sense of who we are and what we believe in, and this goes for any topic!! So don’t get worried over whether they want to read it or not!! Your essay spotlights your determination and will for a better society! I wish you all the best!!

@Xboxgamergirl thank you for your kind words!
I hope I visit again too, but this time as a Yale student :stuck_out_tongue:
I’ve already been to NYC, and I really liked it; although, my favorite city in the States is still Washington, DC. But I would absolutely love to visit some of the Southern states (Georgia, of course, included  )

Hey guys. I got an email from NUS this morning, saying that they would announce decisions on the 10th for Yale NUS and it included this bit.

“Yale College will release its Early Action admissions decisions on December 15th and the Regular Decisions round will be released on March 31st. When your Yale College admissions decision is ready, you will receive an email from Yale College instructing you to check your decision on your Yale College Admissions Status Portal.

”

@mjstewart1224 Thanks for letting us know! Now instead of obsessively refreshing the portal on the 15th, I’ll be staring at my inbox

@kuriosmind you probably wanted to say, “I’ll be obsessively refreshing my inbox” :))

good luck guys! as a fellow 2019 student, yale is absolutely beautiful and full of amazing people  the parties are also lit

So nice of you to come on here and wish us luck! @luxetveritas9 Thank you

@luxetveritas9 Thank you! I really hope we’ll be able to join you and the rest of the amazing people at Yale next year!

@MariaScott Sorry I’m so late in replying (I checked the thread and there were 5 new pages!), but I didn’t do spectacular things over the summer either. For the past two summers, I’ve interned at a lab for the US Dep. of Veterans Affairs. Last summer, I also traveled to France, England, and Iceland (which was pretty cool, but purely for leisure). In addition, as captain of my school’s cross country team I hosted summer practices every morning (when I was home, of course).

I honestly don’t think summer activities matter so much as activities in general do. All of our extracurriculars are grouped together on the CommonApp – they will be looking at the conglomerate instead of analyzing each summer, etc. Also, work experience is great! And if you do other activities that flow into the summer months (e.g. I play violin & piano and run) they understand that sometimes you won’t be able to take on really time-demanding programs.

@Xboxgamergirl I just wanted to let you know that your essays sound extremely interesting/unique and I’ve been smiling at all of the positivity you’ve put into this thread. Fingers crossed we’ll see each other next year!

@theleenbean has learned from his mistake that even if one day of CC participation is missed, then a “heavy” load (5 pages) is stacked upon him!! :)) . @theleenbean , thank you for that compliment! Good luck to you as well! To be honest, everyone in CC so far has shown tremendous determination and passion, that its hard not to show some acknowledgement!! I wish you the best!!

I’m surprised that @ShawnLooch hasn’t updated us on the number of days till admission decisions with his famous NASA/Yale announcement!! Come on @ShawnLooch , we await your announcement and your update on your adrenaline/pessimism/optimism level!! :stuck_out_tongue: ; :-j

@Xboxgamergirl *her mistake haha. Leen as in Eileen.

@theleenbean , oops! Awkward!! Sorry! **her mistake! Btw, thats a beautiful name! (I’m a girl as well)

I love when you guys are finally done with school and I have notifications on CC. It’s like my equally-stressed friends are finally back to make me feel better.

@mjstewart1224 I couldn’t agree more

@mjstewart1224 @Shoumei I’ve been holding back on posting in this thread in the beginning because I didn’t want become too attached to Yale. Now, not only am I in love with Yale, I’m also amazed by the incredibly supportive community on this thread. I love my equally-stressed internet friends! I really hope we all get the decision we want next Tuesday! :x

@kuriosmind Yeah, I had a “stay detached” plan too.

Fail. Epic fail.

@kuriosmind Me too, and I was doing quite well until my interview last week. Now I can’t stop thinking about Yale. I have literally been stalking their twitter(s) and all of their online journals. Plus CC threads, obviously.
