Yale Class of 2020 applicants

Terrified for decision date though because last year it was just a sea of deferrals.

I get annoyed when the Yale Admissions Instagram account skips too many days without a new picture. :))

I honestly will be ok if I’m rejected. Deferral might kill me.

@theleenbean I also just have my interview last week! It was nerve-wracking but I think overall it went well :slight_smile: Also terrified for decision date! Hopefully this year will be a sea of acceptances! >:D<

@mjstewart1224 I feel! I’m obsessed with Yale’s tumblr :>

Hey guys, seeing everyone discuss about their app makes me feel like my application is a joke. I’m from Vietnam so
Internship, leadership, summer activities… Are so absurd to me :((( my EC is all about doing charity and holding an unofficial chemistry club :(( Do you think they will evaluate international applicants’ EC with the same standard that they use to evaluate US students :((

Wow guys. This is pretty much my first time posting. I have been following this group for months and loving almost every post. I haven’t wanted to chime in because I was worried that if I wasn’t accepted it’d be even harder. But clearly I just can’t resist any more. xD.

I have felt such a connection with most everything that has been said from the dreaming, to intense desire, and the panicky nerves, to the imagined elation if we are accepted.

I love your positivity @Xboxgamergirl.

Honestly, I hope we are all accepted even though I know that we would be lucky if even a couple of us are accepted. Best of luck to all you wonderful peeps! :D. December 15th can’t come soon enough.

Also, I’m from Texas so the bump in applicants from Texas didn’t fill me with enthusiasm. :D.

I wrote my two common app essays on my eclectic educational journey and my moderate to severe hearing loss that I was diagnosed with when I was 3ish.

@zacle1234 I can’t answer your question definitively but EVERYONE is evaluated based on his or her environment/community. For example, people in the US who go to schools that don’t offer AP level classes, or live in communities that don’t allow for as much real-world professional experience are evaluated with all of that taken into account. I don’t think it would be any different for you, though the international pool is more competitive to begin with. I wouldn’t worry too much about it! Best of luck to you!

You guys have such compelling essay topics! My CA essay was about my perfect pitch and how I want to create a transcriptional program using CS (intended major) that will create accurate sheet music more efficiently. My supplement was about how gymnastics shaped me as a person (probably cliche lol)

@freenfly Welcome! I feel the same way! I sometimes think if Yale accepted everyone on this thread we would form a perfectly fine class! I’m an international applicant from Canada. Also not too excited about the amazing applicant pool from around the world. We just need to remind ourselves that Yale is a very selective school and their decision has no bearing on our future success! Life is what you make it!

ONE WEEK LEFT-This is honestly going to be a really short week for me I already feel it. I’m extremely terrified about decisions :((! I tried to “Stay detached” plan as well, but like some of you said after my interview I just fell in love! I literally stalk all their social media and I’m always refreshing this page :)) :))
MORE IMPORTANTLY!! REGARDLESS OF OUR OUTCOMES ITS IMPORTANT FOR US TO NOT GIVE UP ON ANY OF OUR DREAMS, AS CORNY AS IT SOUNDS IT’S TRULY GOING TO BE YALES LOST NOT OURS. EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON–LET THAT DRIVE YOU AND HELP YOU MAKE IT THROUGH THIS WEEK. MAY THE ODDS BE IN OUR FAVOR

If you are rejected/deferred, where is everyone else applying?

@mjstewart1224 I’m planning on just staying in-state (NJ) Rutgers University most likely, THANKFULLY, I have a full tuition scholarship there through a special program I’ve been doing!! NOt gonna let anything hold me back from my success

@mjstewart1224 I’ve already applied to UVA and UMich EA. As for RD, the only school I am sure about is Johns Hopkins. I haven’t narrowed down other Ivies yet, but probably Columbia, Princeton, UPenn, etc.

I applied to a couple UC schools (San Diego and Berkley), Stanford, and a couple other Ivies.

stanford, columbia, upenn, case, and I’m still looking at other safeties. trying not to think about it too much… which is probably a bad idea

@gabe211212 whoa full tuition?? nice!

Some ivies, UChicago, Stanford, Pomona and Canadian safeties (U of T and McGill)

Did you guys notice that the appearance of the Yale portal changed? It’s now all white with blue words! :smiley:

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.

I really, really want to go to Yale - it has always been my dream school and I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else. I’ve done so much work for it already and now I’m panicking because I’m scared that I’m not “special” or “great” enough for Yale. I may have the perfect grades and extracurriculars needed, I’m just not one-of-a-kind or unique.

Could someone please tell me what they did that made them “great” or different? What made you “edgy” for the applications?

PLEASE DO NOT WRITE THINGS LIKE “Oh passion is overrated” or something like that it’s really not helpful [-(

@MariaScott , first off I would like to say that everyone(no matter what you did) has something in them that makes them stand out/unique!! I think you just need to sit, think, and write down things you have done that shows your passion. It can be starting a club, volunteering at special olympics every year, etc. Anything, really. I am personally an engineering freak! I have won a national womens engineering award/scholarship. I have started my own women in engineering club, and will be the first female from my school to have completed an engineering curriculum (and I will be given a medal for that). Other than that, the big thing I’ve dont is that I have won third place at an international martial arts competition and o was the first female India to do so. I also compete internationally such as in Amsterdam and singapore.

Now, there are SO MANY MORE. Who have done what I have done!!! And thats true for any activity! What matters is what is special to you. How did doing one club/fight/intern/activity help shape you. What were you passionate about? And that is what matters the most and thats what helps you to be “unique”.
