@IxnayBob I see. I will send my October ACT score directly to Yale. I’ll also be taking the November SAT subject tests, which won’t have the results until late November/early December. Do you suppose Yale would’ve already made their decision by then? Should I still send it in?
The subject tests are not required, but recommended. If it were me, I would take them and submit the scores, without the luxury of seeing the scores first. Your choice might differ, but if you’re applying to a very selective school, I think you have to have some degree of confidence. YMMV.
My son submitted his EA application last night. He did a great job on it and I am very proud - I think he was a little surprised by how momentous it felt to him as he became an “official” college applicant. Now nothing to do but wait for the next two-and-a-half months. Well, wait and complete about 7 more college applications.
On the topic of EA, what is an appropriate time to submit the application? I am pretty confident about my essays, and I have received a lot of positive feedback. The rest of the Common App is complete. I am of course a little bit nervous to submit it, but I am confident about the application as a whole. I’m just curious if there’s any strictly objective reasons/advantages to submit now or to wait.
Thanks in advance.
@yaledreamer97, there is absolutely no advantage to submitting before the deadline. Measure twice, cut once…
@yaledreamer97, cttwenty15 is right, there is no advantage to being early (i.e., no AO will exclaim “what an amazingly well organized applicant we have here!”)
I recommend not waiting until the final hours, though, just in case you have computer/internet/etc problems. There’s no sense in experiencing that stress.
Congratulations on completing your application.
@cttwenty15 Thank you! (As the machinist for my robotics team, I should know that phrase well!)
@IxnayBob Thank you! I really appreciate all the help you’ve given me, directly or indirectly.
Is a week or so before sufficient time? I was advised that it takes two weeks to process, and since I want to make sure that Yale has received everything by the deadline, I should submit my application in that time frame. I’m not sure if I understand that properly or was misinformed.
I’ll continue working on it, crossing my t’s and dotting my i’s, although I think I need a few days of space from my application before reviewing it again. I think it’ll do me some good to have it out of sight, out of mind for a little while, an then I’ll review it with a fresh pair of eyes.
Thanks again!
@yaledreamer97, I don’t think a week is at all necessary. i just meant to not wait until 11:59.
It’s a good idea to put it away for a few days and then look at it with fresh eyes. You have earned that luxury by being on top of your game.
@yaledreamer97, I completely agree with IxnayBob. You only get one push of the submit button, get some distance from it and let it ruminate some more, that is exactly what I did last year (mine went in two days before the deadline, and I attend Yale). Good luck
@IxnayBob @cttwenty15 Thank you so so much! I appreciate the clarification.
Hey guys! Just a quick update… my daughter (a recruited athlete) submitted her EA application mid September and she received a call from the head coach this morning with the great news that admissions approved and her Likely Letter is in the mail!! Woohoo! We’re in the west coast, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for that LL in the mailbox in the next few days! Can’t wait! Just wanted to share the great news as many of you were super helpful this Summer when I was trying to figure out the timeline. As you reassured me, it went like clockwork! Go Bulldogs!!! : )
That’s amazing @SoftballFan
So her college process is essentially done? or will she be applying to any more schools?
Congratulations @SoftballFan and DD! Enjoy the rest of senior year.
@PoisonIvy20- Yes! She is essentially done. She is getting a LL from her #1 choice. My understanding is that as long as she maintains her grades during senior year and continues to be a law abiding citizen, she is good to go.
@IxnayBob-THANK U!!! A big weight has been lifted off her shoulders. She was crying (tears of joy). It was nice seeing her so happy! And as for me, it was great to be able to exhale! Her coaches from 10U also reached out to her to congratulate her (that was awesome). It’s been a very long journey filled with ups and downs but well worth it! Wouldn’t change a thing!
Does anyone know how much value Yale (and schools of similar caliber) places on class rank? My rank isn’t terrible – I’m in the top 10 – but I’m also not val or sal, and I go to a smaller public school that’s not known for being competitive (although my particular grade is an anomaly).
Woah yale is cool but am badly scared of applying there because i am scared of getting rejected. Being an international student from Nigeria is a big challenge and that makes Yale a very far Reach School
Our DD also received a call yesterday from her coach. Her LL is in the mail, and she will be a member of the class of 2020.
@glasshours, Yale’s Common Data Set (http://oir.yale.edu/sites/default/files/CDS2014_2015.pdf) is very important, but I don’t think Val or Sal (degraded honorifics, IMO) is important.
@trackcoach79 - CONGRATULATIONS!!! Go Bulldogs!
@SoftballFan , Congratulations to you, and thank you.
