Yale EA Applicant.. What are the chances?

hi, my friend is applying to yale and wants to know your guys' opinions on his shot:

1400 SAT (first time): 700 M 700 V
790 Writing, 730 History, 700 Math 1C

3.67 unweighted (very high weighted; difficult schedule in the IB program with all IB and AP classes)

59/316 school ranking, 110/9,189 county ranking

Amazing essays
Good teacher reccomendations

Varsity XC and Volleyball, Cinematography club, NHS, debate club, etc.

Also, Legacy (father and brother)

OK What are his chances? THanks so much

not to be rude or anything ... but PLEASE stop with the "hi i want to know my friend's chance!" if he really cared about ccer's opinions, HE should ask, not you.

neway, the gpa doesnt look that good from my standing, but i guess everything else looks ok

honestly, prolly little to no chance... low gpa and low SAT... i dont think legacy will make up for it.

I hate to be blunt, but little to no chance. Go ahead and apply, a legacy may help your friend, but overall, your friend's achievement just isn't impressive compared to thousands of others who will be applying.

I have to disagree. Your friend's numbers are high enough to earn consideration on grounds of essays, recommendations, and the interview-- in other words, those must be top-notch for there to be a good chance of admission.

the interview can never make up for lost ground in GPA and test scores, which are two really important factors. Really great EC's might do it, and the interview can make a difference if he really shows what he's interested in.

It's you who wants to know, not you're friend... I'm not stupid

The legacy would basically be his saving grace.

collegefreak, it really is a friend. i was accepted to columbia ED. my friend just couldnt get on the board so i told him id put it up for him
