I’m interested in majoring in Political Science, International Relations, or Sociology. Please be honest and I will appreciate any constructive criticism. Thank you so much!

Yale does not have Early Decision (ED), but Single Choice Early Action (SCEA). So, first off you need to understand the difference: <a href=“Early Decision and Early Action – Counselors | College Board”>http://professionals.collegeboard.com/guidance/applications/early

Secondly, as an international applicant you need to understand that you DO NOT have the same chances as US students – no matter what your stats.

Unfortunately Yale doesn’t supply the same statistics as Harvard, but look at this: http://www.hio.harvard.edu/abouthio/statistics/pdf/StudentsSchoolCountryRank13-14.pdf

Pay attention to COLUMN B (College - which is the undergraduate school). Those are the total number of students from each country at the college. Divide the numbers in Column B by 4 to get an idea of how many freshman from each country have been admitted in the past. So, there are currently 20 students from India at Harvard, meaning that Harvard admits about 5 students from India every year. Yale probably admits about the same number. Those are terrible odds, almost impossible ones.

So, what are your chances? Well, if you’re one of India’s top 5 students, I would think you have better chance at Yale than other students from India. If you’re not one of India’s top 5 or top 10 students, it’s going to be very difficult.

@gibby Yes I did mean SCEA and I know that it’s binding. And sorry for the confusion but I’m not an international student but rather of Indian ethnicity.

^^ In that case, I suggest you read this thread, as everything in it pertains to Yale, as well. <a href=“Chance Threads - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING ONE - Harvard University - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1420290-chance-threads-please-read-before-posting-one-p1.html

Probably a cut/paste error, but you should know that it is NOT binding… unless it’s truly your first choice :-)
