Hey guys-
so, I got my prescreen results from Yale a while ago, and I’m having an audition (for solo piano). I was wondering if anyone has experience/information on what the audition is like-- I hear that you are quizzed in general music history (which I am decent at) but the way i’ve heard it seems pretty specific- ex. being able to play themes from operas, naming as many brahms chamber works you can, etc…
anyways, I’m just really nervous. any other info is appreciated :]
I would call the School of Music admissions and ask them for specific information on the audition. I noticed the website does not have a lot of details. A call might help you feel less nervous. Congratulations on making it to audition. Good luck!!
My professor in college went to Yale for his MM and DMA in piano. When I was a freshman my studio mentor who was a senior was auditioning for MM programs and apparently our professor told him that at Yale they might do things like ask you to play Beethoven symphony movements by ear to test your keyboard and aural skills. That’s by no means a guarantee that that would actually happen but that story did stick out to me
