Yale, MIT, or Harvard?

<p>I'm kinda going crazy right now. I was blessed to have been accepted into Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Penn, Duke, and MIT (EA). I need help deciding. </p>

<p>I plan to get some form of a Biology major, probably in molecular + cellular biology. I really do value the humanities, however. I love political science and economics. I will be doing the pre-med track. I'm on the east coast and I don't like the quarter system, so I've unfortunately eliminated Stanford from my list. I've also eliminated Penn and Duke.</p>

<p>Currently, I'm debating among Harvard, Yale, and MIT. Here's why I like each school:</p>

<p>Harvard: Boston/Cambridge is perfect. MCB department is highly ranked. They allow secondary concentrations. Pre-meds go to med school at a 95% rate. It's really hard to say no to this place. </p>

<p>Yale: Residential college system is so unique. Campus is beautiful. People seem to be happier with their college experience than those at Harvard. Parties and nightlife are apparently really good here. I want to join an acapella group. Yale seems to have the best academic schedule and a useful shopping period. Pre-meds go to med school at a 93% rate. </p>

<p>MIT: Again, Boston/Cambridge is perfect. I've never seen a school with people so great and likable. I know you don't find students like MIT students. They have IAP, top rated economics and political science departments. I'd be getting a top 10 education in biology, economics, AND political science through a major, and two minor system. Their pre-med rate to medical school is at 75% probably due to the difficulty of courses and deflation of grades. </p>

<p>My gut tells me I'd be happier at Yale, but there's something that doesn't sit well in saying no to Harvard. As for MIT, the people are just great. I'm not sure what to do.</p>

<p>Based on my academic interests, future goals (medical school), and desire to have a fun social/nightlife, which school should I choose? Which school would you choose in this position?</p>

<p>With these fantastic choices, go with your gut. But educate your gut by going to the admitted student days, if you can.</p>

<p>MIT is a bit hard for premed majors since GPA is very important and you will need to work extra hard. I was at an MIT admit party recently as a parent and another parent mentioned his kid having to take a hard chemistry class at Harvard to pass. Going to Harvard or MIT allows you to cross register and experience both colleges.</p>

<p>OTOH, if you go to Yale bulldog days, I hear you will never consider another college!</p>

<p>Thanks for the help. I’ll be going to Bulldog Days, CPW, and Visitas and then I’ll make my final decision. At this point, though, I’m leaning heavily towards Yale. I just don’t want to regret turning down Harvard and MIT. =/</p>

<p>Soydecali, I’d lean towards MIT. I have a freshman son at MIT and a year ago he had your same decision. He went to cpw and Visitas and said that he just couldn’t beat MIT for the sciences. My son also loves history and literature. He is taking both of those clases at Harvard which is easy to do .<br>
It was a bit of an adjustment going to MIT after high school where he was always on top but now, he absolutely LOVES MIT. He says it was vey competitive to get in, but once you’re in, the community ( teachers, students) want you to succeed and is very supportive.
Myson also says that at MIT they study hard but play hard too. He’s on several intermeral sports teams (which are very popular at MIT) and is thinking of joining a fraternity.<br>

<p>MITs’ pre med accpetace rate is 85 % , just to correct that. Medical schools understand that MIT is hard. I would go with MIT .</p>
