I'm sorry if this is a basic/stupid question but...

Which music supplement system am I supposed to use for Yale? On Yale's website, it says that they have their own website for supplements. But on the common app, the music supplement option is a different procedure. Which one should I use? The common app seems more comprehensive because it wants a music teacher recommendation, music resume, and 10 minute recording. Yale's website says they only want a recording.

Help!

I am unable to look at the common application supplement as I will not be setting up an account…However, after looking at the Yale website this is what I think they are asking you to do…

Per the Yale website you are only to send in music or compositions if you are highly talented (more so than the normal high schooler would be)…they say if you are just of average ability then sending in a sample will not help your application…so I do not believe you are required to send a sample…Someone please correct me if I am wrong here.

The Yale website goes on to say that the music or composition sample should not be sent in until they have their website ready to receive it.(which will not be until at least October 1st)…once their website is ready to receive your sample (if you choose to send one in) then you will upload it there AND then also check the appropriate box on the supplemental form of the common application so they know you sent one in…

So recapping…I think you will need to fill out everything on the common application supplement… then …only if you want to send in a sample would you also go to the Yale website where the sample would be uploaded electronically through their link (along with the information requested about your sample).

You can go ahead and get your sample recorded now (in the format they require) so you will be ready to upload it once they have the upload link ready sometime after October 1st…Make sure to look at the instructions as it also requires specific information on your samples to be submitted via the Yale website.

I guess I am confused because the common app supplement also gives you space to upload a recording. Should I leave that space blank and just use Yale’s website? Or do both?

Sorry can’t answer that…quick call to Yale admissions would probably get the answer you need :)
