Thanks @RayLiSingapore for compiling the list of previously asked questions in the interviews. All the best for the interview. Do share your experience here.
I think it went great, I was pretty nervous but had a great time. It seemed less an interview and more so a conversation (:
I didn’t get any hardball question, alot of jumping around topics though, had to switch pretty quickly. Touched on my EE, passions, intended major, volunteering, why I chose the type of volunteering im doing, how I faced a situation where someone disagreed with me (When I was in the army), a subject I took during IB that I started and ended with a different opinion might have messed up this question I went from good to bad instead of bad to good and lastly the BIG Why Yale NUS question.
Although it did feel mildly rushed cause the topics changed somewhat quickly and I didn’t have much room to expand enough on the things I was talking about. She did tell me a lot about YaleNus and the experiences I can benefit from it? Felt strongly that my interviewer was selling the uni to me, as opposed to me selling myself
My interviewer very supportive and friendly c:
Don’t be nervous like me guys/gals!
P.s Guys/Gals do always prepare a list of questions you want to ask the interviewer, it helps you to understand more about the uni but as well helps the interviewer to understand what you’re interested in as well.
P.p.s Hope to meet the rest of you in person when we all get in ((: we could all chill together
Additionally I went for it, for the love of all you people here c: Just asked it point blank
I asked my interview about the general application process and others

The timing/date at which you receive your interview means absolutely nothing. So don’t fret (: Those who have yet to receive your invites! Keep faith, it’ll come soon!
-
I mean I’ve heard this a thousand times but it’s legit. The interview is a get to know you session buts it’s really informal. So don’t stress out on the interview!
-
Decision comes around End March to Early April. You’ll receive an email to check your portal. So remember to check your emails actively around then.
-
Scholarships - like merit based scholarships Those who apply to Yale NUS are automatically considered for them, no additional essay no nothing. There are differing ranges of these and you’ll know if you get them together with your decision. So if you’re done with the interviews and worrying about if you can get in, focus on the scholarships and tell yourself you’ll definitely make it, just whether you can clinch a scholarship.
-
Fininancial aid and need based scholarships.
Just apply, apply, apply. Don’t worry if you qualify just apply! If I recall right appx 50% of the students are on some form of financial aid. So apply!
Thanks @RayLiSingapore for the detailed account. Super useful!
Guys! Hi to all of you! Hope that we are gonna be fellow classmates very soon! Haven’t received my interview invitation yet:( Applied on 14th of January. Pretty nervous! I know it has been already mentioned here that the order of sending/getting invitations doesn’t really matter, but it does not calm me down xD
@striveprosper18 To the best of my knowledge they do try to interview as many as they can ((: Jyjy! There’s still about 2 weeks more!
See you at Yale nus man ((:
Hello all! My daughter found out about Yale-NUS through her Yale application. We are trying to learn everything we can about it as it seems like the perfect fit for her! She received her interview invitation on Jan 29th and completed her interview on Feb. 1. Looks like an incredible program and she would be lucky to join you all in Singapore. I’ve been following this thread to learn as much as we can about the program. Good luck to everyone and please continue posting your thoughts and why the school is right for you.
Got an interview invite an hour ago!
just got my interview invite they are still sending out invites
Just completed my interview and the interviewer was extremely friendly! It is also true that they repeat questions previously posted on this thread and asked 2-3 questions about your apps (ECA/Essay and what not). They actually seemed interested in my essays though.
All the best to everyone else!
Got my interview invite yesterday! Beyond Ecstatic!! Yale-NUS is my best choice
Anyway, what proportion of applicants receive an interview invitation? Almost all?
Actually, I’ve heard statistics that only ~20% of applicants receive them. Anyway, Yale-NUS is one of my top choices as well, I’m so anxious about waiting until April to get back the decision.
I too read somewhere that they invite about 20% of applicants for interviews.
@BarryA just curious, what did you write about in your essays?
@India2018 I actually wrote the identity essay.
Anyway, for the community’s information, I asked admissions after my interviewer told me we would hear back BY April 1, and the admission officer actually confirmed to me it’d be released during EARLY April with no specific date.
@BarryA Mhnnm I got the follow up email that said April 1st too! Gosh still 53 days T. T
Last year, it was on March 23!
hey, do you guys know how to figure out if your internet connection is strong enough to support a skype call? My school’s wifi is very unstable. sometimes, it works, sometimes it doesn’t. i couldn’t connect with my interviewer and was asked to reschedule. thank you so much in advance
@ArtistNatureLove Try Googling “Speed Test” and see what’s your upload and download speed. The minimum speed Skype suggests is 1.2Mbps / 1.2Mbps.
My interviewer told me during the interview that we’d find out by 1st April. Odd that we’re getting different information but I think it should be by then because that’s what I’ve heard from my seniors who applied to YNUS!
@achilleees everyone seems to be getting emails that’s says it’ll be in by April 1st.
@primenumber was just saying last year it came in late March.
April 1st still pretty far away, I guess everyone’s just nervous and would prefer it come in earlier but seems like we all have to wait till April 1st
P.S. Can’t believe it falls on April fools day though. Oh man.
