how is yale for undergrad with hopes to go to a good medical school?

what options are there for (pre)med there?

thanks

yale has like 95% get into med school iheard...they are good

the other 5% become ceo's lol and politicians

Yale has recorded that 94-96% (including alumni) of Yale students who apply to medical school, get in.

But, also realize that the quality of the typical Yale student may influence this high rate.

I have heard somewhere that Yale screens their medical school applicants, which is how they get their 90+% accepted. However, I don't really know if that's true or not....

Yale does not screen applicants; the advising is exceptionally strong though.

The hurdle is GETTING into Yale with barely over an eight percent admit rate. Given this enormous amount of selectivity (not Yale's fault, IMHO), those who go and eventually take pre-med courses are pretty darn qualified, no?

BTW, Y has no pre-med major. Neither do most schools.

how is yale med school though

Yale has a really strong med school. They don't grade their students and give them time off. Pretty lax compared to all other med schools imo.

I'd recommend you go over to the Pre-med Topics forum. First read this thread:

and then do a search, as this question has been asked very often.

is it harder to get into yale undergrad applying as a pre-med/bio major than for something else, lets say? is major (bio) a factor in the selections process?

^nope. You could major in anything (although religion sounds rather suspect) and still be fine.

coffee: you should be aware that almost no college has a "pre-med" major. Medical school is post-collegiate professional school. In order to be considered they want certain undergrad coursework as a pre-requisite.

Like piccolo said, you can major in anything as long as you crank on your MCATs and do well on your med school pre-req courses.

Also Yale doesn't consider what you list as a potential major in deciding admissions

Medkid: Yale Med consistently ranks in the top 5 nationwide
