YALE RD CLASS OF 2019

^^more like 60-65,000!!!

@nomatterwhat That’s really too bad. And the problem is, the calculators often aren’t correct for more complex financial situations. But maybe your friend’s friend will get significantly more money somewhere else.

This anxiety is killing me. Has anyone found a creative way to make the next week pass quickly??

Chipotle + Netflix
Not that creative, but it gets the job done

I’m pretty sure if everyone on this thread combined the brainpower, we could possibly invent a TARDIS or a time machine in the next few days… Then someone could do the wibbly wobbly timey wimey thing to get all of us results.

Jokes aside, Chipotle and Netflix sounds so good right now.

I know what Netflix is, but what’s Chipotle? xD Enlighten mooiiiiii.

@pedestrian1123‌ I wish more schools allowed applicants to tell you more about themselves with creative essay questions like NYU and UChicago do. I am convinced the reason my son got into UChicago EA is because of his essays. I think that is what set him apart. While I think his Yale essay, especially the main one, were good, I thought the questions were sort of predictable. For his main essay he wrote about the moment, right after her turned 14, when he told my husband and me that he was rejecting our faith. It was devastating for us because it felt like a rejection of our entire values, traditions and family life. There was also some other family drama going on at the time. We have since come to terms with the fact that he is his own man, though I still hope he will find his way back to his faith. And that moment, combined with some other drama in his life, defined who he is in terms of intellectual curiosity and striking out on his own. It also helped shape his interest in neuroscience.

@LegacyMom I love that!

@arabm2‌ http://www.chipotle.com/en-US/default.aspx?type=default aka one of the best restaurants EVER

@LegacyMom‌ I agree about the value of additional essay information. I believe the depth and variety of questions in Stanford’s app is precisely why that class ends up so wonderfully diverse in interests and pursuits, not just demographics. And it’s nice they openly state a poor arts supplement won’t hurt you, and even offer a live audition option. They seem to really get to know the applicants … All 42k!!

Stanford has the BEST app. Loved writing the mini-essays!

@maustimproved‌ OooOOooooOOoooOOooo, I thought it was some kind of snack haha. I’m a vegetarian so no Chipotle for me lol.

@MomTwo2‌ My son didn’t apply to Stanford, so I don’t know what their application entailed. Wish I had seen it! I can’t recall why he ruled them out, but we try to keep the application process reigned in. My 2 older sons only applied to 4 schools each – dream school, 2 good fits that they would like and a safety school. With our 3rd son, since his schools were more of a reach, we let him apply to 6 and he didn’t have to apply to a safety school, since he got into UChicago EA. We are thrilled with all of his options. And, not that I would ever tell other kids what they should do, but I think some of these applications have gotten out of hand thanks to the common app. We have a friend whose daughter applied to 19 schools! I believe you should go after what you really want, have some realistic alternatives and leave it at that. What may mean nothing to my son, may mean everything to some other kid, so why take up a spot that may be really important to someone else?

@arabm2 You don’t know what you’re missing; Chipotle has a vegetarian option.

@skieurope Really? Well, that’s certainly awesome aha. I seem to have missed it while browsing the menu. Is it any good, though? Most vegetarian options at restaurants reputable for their quality of meat, chicken, or whatever suck…

Yale is need blind (like Harvard and Princeton and a few other schools). What is happening with the Admissions Committee has no bearing whatsoever with financial aid. You may get a tentative financial aid offer with your admissions, but it will not be finalized until later when more documents are submitted.

All that being said, they are most definitely still looking at applications this late in the game and while there probably are quite a few in the accept pile, there are probably a good number of students “on the bubble” that they are discussing whether or not they will fit into the class they are crafting.

Good luck to all of you.

No. If you are accepted, you will get a letter with your calculated financial aid. You then have time to make your decision based upon the package (if you need to). Also, you can appeal the amount of the award. Students have been successful in getting the amount of parent contribution lowered.

@arabm2 I assume it’s good. I’ve never had a vegetarian option, but the veggies that go into my burrito bowls are yummy, and I always wait for the freshly stir-fried fajita mix

@adrianmcafe15 Yes, when you click on the link there will be a singing Bulldog if you are accepted. The good part is that you can click on it over and over. I know my D clicked it quite a few times (and I did it a few myself). Other schools do it differently. Harvard sends an e-mail. UPenn has a link and you open it up and confetti falls on the screen. Whatever the method, you will be thrilled when you get that much awaited acceptance to wherever you are meant to be.

@LegacyMom‌ agree. agree!!! Our rule was they had to have visited it and believed they would be very happy there.

I got nervous and made D apply to our flagship state school. That was a waste bc it’s earlier acceptance came with $ and kids calling and… It’s not the place. I felt bad we wasted their time. Also S withdrew his app at a “most selective” LAC once S got into Stanford for that very reason: he knew then he wouldn’t attend there, and AOs are busy enough. But Yale… He’s really, really hoping. App Decisions in Sept were just so long ago. If we knew then what we know now… It’s all good. GOOD LUCK to everyone!!! ISO hope where kids end up is a truly awesome experience. My niece 3 yrs ago was devastated when rejected at her dream school ED and everyone thought she was a shoe in. Now 3 years later, even she can’t imagine she’d be happier anywhere other than where she ended up, which at the time was a very distant 2nd. It’s been amazing.

@skieurope Ohh. Well, I’ll be sure to update you guise on the quality of Chipotle’s vegetarian options this fall!
