Yale SCEA 2017 Deferred Applicants Discussion thread

Perhaps we want a deferred thread to talk about it and the process over the next few months? We already sorta know each other :)

Cedar, I have just started a RD Discussion thread.

I was deferred, and I would definitely be interested in keeping up with any other students in the same situation!

I would be cool with keeping this thread for those deferred :o

If that’s okay, that is.

If deferred students have a camaraderie that they want to continue, that’s great. And you can participate with your fellow RD candidates on the other Discussion thread as well :).

So where are y’all applying to now?

I’ve always planned on applying to Princeton, Columbia, and Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt’s already complete, but I still need to do almost everything for Pton and CU.

Already been accepted to Clemson though, so I guess I’m in a better spot than most :)

I’ve already applied to the University of Washington, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Oklahoma. I’ve been accepted to the last one and received a full tuition scholarship, so that’s good  I even got into the honors college there.

I’ve just decided to submit an app to Stanford, but that means I have 10 days to write a ton of stuff. This’ll be fun.

Any of you guys planning on submitting an update to Yale?

I set the school record and applied to 17 schools. I’m not crazy, I have my reasons ahah. But they are all submitted already. Yale, Harvard, Columbia, Penn, Dartmouth, Brown, UChicago, Wesleyan, Williams, Amherst, Villanova, Providence, Fairfield, UConn, Colby, Holy Cross, and Bentley.

SCEA obviously made me apply RD to all of them, but I received a letter from Villanova yesterday stating that “despite your RD application, we are pleased to inform you of your early action acceptance.”

So I’m into a college! Woohoo!

^We have a bunch of schools in common! Potentially cause 17 covers a lot of ground, hehe.

ealdi94, seriously!? That’s pretty amazing, haha. I guess your application was just so amazing that they couldn’t pass it up ;)

@ealdi94, thank you for applying to 17 so I don’t feel as crazy. I obviously have my common app done. And some of these supplemental essays done, but nothing is finished completely/submitted.

Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Cornell, Georgetown, Duke, Tufts, George Washington, William and Mary, UVa, University of Denver. 11 RD, 12 over all.

DU, Harvard, William and Mary are pretty much done unless I end up changing things in my essays. Princeton and Tufts I’m in the midsts. The beautiful thing is the Yale supplement allowed me to write a great anecdotal essay covering theater and music (when I want to major in political science) that I can use for many of these colleges :D

The thing I liked about the Yale supplement was that it forced me to have 2 500-word essays, so for Stanford, I could pick the one I liked best and tweak it a bit.

Yeah everyone thinks I’m insane for applying to 17 but my rationale is that I’ll a) increase my chances of getting into one of the Ivy’s/mini Ivy’s or b) get a really good scholarship from another school. I’d be happy at any college on my list though, so that’s good.

And yes it is so fulfilling knowing that I actually got in somewhere already. Villanova is a great school too so I’m pretty psyched about that…it was such a surprise when the letter came.
