YALE RD CLASS OF 2019

Did anyone else also not receive an interview offer? I know it’s not supposed to affect me if I was never offered one in the first place but I can’t help but wonder…

Guys, good luck on your decisions tomorrow from a fellow transfer applicant!

lol @ the “admit” url thing-- this is literally exactly what happened for yale SCEA: someone tried to look at the decision page before it opened, saw “Welcome to Yale” or something written on it, and everyone freaked out before they realized it was everyone’s page title.
Is this a prospective-Yalie thing? What truly unites Yale applicants is our desire to read admissions decisions into generic webpage elements

@binatang I didn’t get one either… we’ll see tomorrow, I guess!

Let the countdown begin

@binatang I’m an applicant from China with no interview offer, and I heard that there was no applicant who got into Yale without interview in China before, so actually I’m not expecting…

So it turns out I have an English mock that ends literally 2 mins before decisions come out. Is there even a point to showing up/

Good luck today guys. I am almost sure CC will crash, lol. Also based from previous years’ threads decisions won’t come out exactly at 5, for some reason they usually don’t.

It’s been a year and I still don’t understand what’s so special about Kwasi Enin’s essay

@Neurogirl07‌ I agree it wasn’t my favorite, but I think it did a good job of showing a snapshot of his personality and where his interests truly are.

9 hours and 17 minutes guys!!!

^^ An interesting read ^^

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE, I WAS REJECTED BY YALE SCEA, BUT I’M SO PROUD OF YOU ALL!

@Neurogirl07‌ I wish essays carried that much weight because that is the only thing that would set my son apart from all the other excellent candidates out there. But I honestly think Ennin’s essay, though good, wasn’t that huge of a factor. He is an URM with good test scores, excellent EC activity and a great back story.

@cvisser96‌ Thanks for sharing that article. I guess even after having gone through the college admission process 2 times before, I am still pretty naive about how clinical (and maybe cynical?) the admissions process is. My son certainly didn’t package himself to fit into a box…oh well. Nothing can be done about that now. Good luck to everyone.

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear results this afternoon. I remember last year my son waiting to hear from 6 ivies and it was nerve racking!!!

I was just concerned - usually a lot of people apply to a bunch of ivy leagues- is it true that usually the same people get into a majority of them? Like the same people taking the same spots

@Hersheybar315‌ I’m not exactly sure how that works. Apparently there are a few kids who apply to all the Ivies because they just want to get into an Ivy – any Ivy – and that is the best way to increase their odds. FWIW, my son only applied to Yale because it seemed like a great fit for him and to one other Ivy that was more of a “What-the-heck-I’ve-got-nothing-to-lose-so-I’ll-give-it-a-shot.” I think kids miss the mark when they worry more about the prestige of getting into an Ivy League school than in taking the time to know what would suit them best. But, yes, if one simply cares about getting into any Ivy, it probably serves them well to apply to a bunch and that probably is a disadvantage to those who are genuinely only concerned with one or two. Anyway, not much can be done about it now. Good luck to you!

I totally agree with you, LegacyMom, that sometimes kids can miss the mark and overvalue the Ivies. My son was extremely anxious about getting into Yale back when he applied, and it was the best fit of all the Ivies for him, but since then he’s been given two wonderful scholarship offers, very much tailored to his educational wishes, from univs/colleges in our home state. They include internships, study abroad summers, and so on that are just right for him. He’s not really stressing about Yale today! There is so much out there now beyond the Ivies, many more opportunities than existed in my day, back in the Jurassic!

@Masha12358‌ We’re in the same boat. I can’t say that my son was ever anxious about getting into Yale. He knew it was a long shot from the start, so never got emotionally invested. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t until he got accepted EA to a top 5 school that he deemed it possible enough to even apply to Yale. My son has also gotten a full scholarship and a research/travel stipend to another Top 15 school. And both of these schools are within a 5 hour drive of our home. He is extremely excited about his options… Of course, he would be thrilled and honored to get into Yale, but t isn’t the end of the world if he doesn’t. I feel for these kids who have everything emotionally invested in this. It can be heartbreaking to watch. Kids need to realize this is not a reflection of their worth. They are so much more than what some scoring chart says. Good luck to all.

@LegacyMom‌ but what should a student do when the parents overvalue the Ivies … ? :frowning:
