@elijaheliot I know everyone around me is saying “oh she’s going to Yale” and I’m thinking what if I don’t get in, there are so many other qualified applicants
Where are y’all planning on opening decisions? I’d rather not open them around family or friends…
I’m planning on opening them alone for sure.
I’m also worried about what others will say if I don’t get in, since a lot of people at my school know that my twin and I applied SCEA at Yale. Yet, you have to remember that Yale is hard to get into, no matter how amazing your grades or EC’s are. And in the end, YOU are the one who applied, so do not stress about the opinions of others! And remember that lots of us are in the same boat!
@elijaheliot Alone for sure!! Firstly, I will probably give a pep talk to myself just so I would be prepared for whatever. Then I will just check it in my room. P.S. It will be around 23:00 at my place
I’m opening it with my parents. We have a great relationship and they know how much I want this. We’re all praying!
I’m definitely going to open it alone, but I’m planning to call my dad immediately after no matter what.
Have you guys finished your other applications and submitted? Or waiting to hear from Yale and then submitting? Or, like me, frantically trying to complete a whole mess of them amidst AP work?
I’ve submitted all mine and done several RD interviews. I think I had all my apps done in October, because I knew I would be so busy midyear. This month I’ve also added some out of state schools that offer full ride for national merit, since that might be a really good option for me. I’m just hoping to have plenty of choices come April @seniors.yikes.us
@seniors.yikes.us I’m in the same boat as you - frantically trying to get nine apps done while preparing for winter exams. If I get accepted next week I’ll cut it down to two applications but I very much doubt that will happen, so nine it is.
I find it interesting we’re the last Ivy to have decisions released…I wonder why. To be honest, I’m thankful because it’s closer to break and I won’t be seeing everyone else in my grade get in places all week and thinking “oh I wish I would have gotten in”
@yalehopeful017 I also find it interesting… Tbh, I would want to find out a little earlier (like Cornell and UPenn who find out today) because it’ll give me the weekend to either be happy or sad and allow me to focus on finals next week
@DreamforIvy I have a feeling it’d do the exact opposite in my case. If I don’t get in, I have a feeling I’m not going to be performing at my best. Especially because I guarantee someone from my grade will get in. We already have an athlete going, but they’ll definitely take another in the early pool because our applicants are just that strong. Plus my school, despite being public and not having Ivy connections, is definitely on Yale’s radar. We always get at least two in per year. Also, I heard UPenn was Friday…
@yalehopeful017 Oh, I understand. I think it’s easier for me because I believe I was the only one who applied SCEA… Or maybe others did too, but I haven’t heard of any yet… And I meant to say “today and tomorrow.”
@DreamforIvy Yeah, I’m in a pretty bad position considering who I’m applying against. The class president, two kids with 2390’s, and one with a 2350. I have lower scores but the best extracurriculars, so we’ll see. I’d be so happy if I was the only one applying from my school haha! We’ve never had this many apply early there ever…
There are so many kids applying Yale SCEA this year! There are at least 5 or 6 from my school alone and many more from the other schools in my district. In comparison Princeton SCEA is way less popular, maybe I should’ve done that instead lol
@y90y90 , there’s an ebb and flow. DS school graduates 100 kids./year. His year, 8% matriculated at Penn (who knows how many applied and/or were accepted). The next year, far fewer.
I think the difference is in the chatter about the new RC’s. People hear the increase in the size of the student population and assumed it would be filled with all new freshmen. But it doesn’t work that way. They will be filling the new RC’s with all 4 years so it does not equate to a higher acceptance rate for freshman. I suspect it may actually be the reverse in the end. More will apply because they think they have a better chance this year and lower percentage rate of total acceptance as a result.
According to this YDN article, the acceptance rate is set to increase:

just got my interview request today–what does that mean?
I think @Memmsmom is probably right. Yes, they thought they would accept more as a percentage, but the pool seems to have increased more than expected, at least for SCEA. They still will accept a few hundred more to get a bigger class than in the past, but as a percentage, it could be lower.
