Then we’d get to wait even longer Do you know if Yale has a policy about whether SCEA can get waitlisted during RD? If I remember correctly, some schools will only accept or reject deferred applicants. I’m not sure I’d survive getting a “eh probably not, but maybe” in March.
@Gh0st3737 true unless I get deferred … but at that point i have to move on you know i cant count on getting accepted after deferral
I’ve heard this site is full of crazy people (got told that on Friday actually) and I’d say neither is wrong. Take everything with a grain of salt. Things here are inflated. For example are you more likely to post your scores if you’re insecure vs if you’ve gotten nearly a 2400 and want to be puffed up/consoled? This isn’t a shot at people with high scores. More power to you. But the constant flood of people with such good scores (which CAN’T be everyone) changes how you see things.
In short: Yes.
i think they can still waitlist after deferral which would be pretty funny actually if you think about it
LOL I showed my dad this site the other day for the first time and he was reading through stuff and he’s like what the heck parents are on here people do that? Why is this person referring to her son as S? So funny
Yale’s standing policy is to not offer waitlist to people who were deferred from SCEA. They feel it’s unfair to keep tugging them along. Deferrees from SCEA will get a solid YES or NO answer in March. Only very rarely will one be offered a waitlist spot after being deferred from SCEA.
@Nate1991 How many unique CC users who post are applicants for the class of 2021? A hundred or so? There’ll be in excess of 30K applicants for this season. The CC sample is tiny and everyone reading the stats and results need to know this.
For instance, people come across as generally solid applicants from their postings here and maybe elsewhere where they’ve put up their stats, right?
But here’s my real life sample. I met with seven of your competitors so far – seven SCEA applicants for interviews. Here’s how I rated them, in the context of the very competitive Yale applicant pool: 1 was above average (Strong), 2 were Average, 3 were below average (Unremarkable) and I rated one as Not Recommended.
It was shocking to me, to be frank. Usually, the bulk are Average with one or two going above, one or two below.
@T26E4 Thanks for the perspective! I’m curious- what would cause an interviewee to be rated as “Not Recommended?”
The dude was a clown and wasn’t mature enough to tamp it down even for his interview for Yale. How about dem apples? And I like to laugh and have a good time! I cut it short after about 20 mins. I tried to give him room to redeem himself. Wasn’t happening.
A fellow interviewer said of a young woman he met: “one of the worst I ever met during an interview. Applicant didn’t make eye contact. Didn’t want to speak. Almost one word answers. Showed no intellectual spark or interest. Asked why Yale, reply: “My Vice principal made me do it.” Only question posed was ‘how difficult was it to live so far away’ Ended interview after 15 mins”
(Hopefully neither of these is one of the readers of this thread!)
I can safely say that I doubt either of these two will be much competition for you guys.
@T26E4 I fostered a strong connection with my interviewer during my interview and towards the end of the 2-hour-long interview, we had become pretty frank with each other. Would it be wrong for me to ask my interviewer if she has heard any word on my decision? Do you as an interviewer have access to the decisions of applicants you interview?
Interviewers are given the results – but only 3-4 days after they go up on the portal. It’s to prevent any “leakage” before a student had a chance to look up the decision for himself/herself.
If you get admitted, I promise you she’ll be calling to congratulate you! For admitted students, the power balance shifts to them – we alumni become part of the courting process, to get them to matriculate (since SCEA isn’t binding). In my area, an athlete Likely Letter recipient and a QB match have already been identified and the director has reached out to them – in order to try to get them to choose Yale.
Interesting @T26E4 How many would you guess Yale would take this year early?
No clue. I suspect a few more due to the expansion with the 2 new res colleges – but I’ve not been keeping up w/any news, if it did come out.
@T26E4 so are you suggesting that compared to your pool of students the CC ones are more competitive because they all appear to be strong applicants compared the the wide scale you have seen?
@T26E4 Thanks for the response. They stated that they’d take 300-400 more overall, and they would allocate more spots to regular than early. My guess, which would be proportionate to the increased number they took from Questbridge, is that they will take around 150 more early to keep a steady yield rate. We’ll see if I’m correct when decisions are released…
@T26E4 I believe the QB Match wouldn’t have the choice; he or she will have to matriculate at Yale.
@T26E4 But thanks for the insight! I just need to somehow get through these four days
@T26E4 Btw, are you just an alum interviewer or do you have stronger ties to the admissions office somehow?
@therealthing I don’t think the person would be forced to. I saw a thread where someone was regretting where they matched to and was planning to apply somewhere else regular.
@therealthing No, Yale is one of the few schools on Questbridge that applicants are not forced to matriculate to if they are matched during the early round. I believe the other ones are Stanford, Princeton and MIT. They’re allowed to apply to other schools during the regular round through Questbridge if they’d like to.
@T26E4 what made that one student especially strong?
