Yale supplement: engineering essay

Yale supplement, which is now available online, has this essay

[quote]
If you selected one of the engineering majors, please write a brief third essay telling us what has led you to an interest in this field of study, what experiences (if any) you have had in engineering, and what it is about Yale's engineering program that appeals to you.

Currently, I'm not sure what I'll major in, even though engineering is my top choice (I'm also looking at natural sciences and economics)

Is a major choice for engineering binding? I don't see a point of writing a specific essay if people can just write something else for prospective major and switch over to engineering later on

If I choose "engineering" as my major, would I not be able to major in anything other than those involved in Yale SEAS?

No, you apply to and are accepted by Yale College. On the undergraduate level there is technically no SEAS and CAS. Engineering majors are going to require more courses to complete, so you’ll want to know pretty early on if you’re going to do engineering. However, you don’t have to do engineering if you put it on the app, and you can do it if you get to yale and find out you want to do engineering.

So potentially I do not have to write the essay as I can just write down natural sciences for now and major in engineering later?

I’ll probably end up writing the essay but just curious
