My son is still trying to decide between Yale and the M&T program at Penn. He will get two degrees from Penn - engineering and business from Wharton. And he is thinking of double majoring in engineering and economics at Yale. The pros for the M&T program is you are almost guaranteed a job in finance/wall street, however the more liberal arts/intellectual type of education (less pre-professional than Wharton) at Yale is very attractive as well and it opens another door if he ends up not liking finance/investment banking. He was thinking of going to law someday. Can someone share their experience with us?

M&T is not going to close any doors … and I can’t think of any better program for that Wall Street job. You can’t go wrong with either though!

I would go with Penn M&T because of the Wall Street recruiting (opportunities to join top hedge funds straight out of undergrad, which are generally not available to other ivy grads).

That said, if one isn’t set on a Wall Street career and leaning towards law, engineering is overkill anyway. Interests will probably change and Yale’s world-renowned humanities/lib. arts programs would be a much better fit than Wharton and Penn SEAS.

There you said it yourself. Both options are great, and neither will close any doors to any fields/industries. But all else equal, I believe a more well rounded liberal arts education at Yale is more intellectually rewarding.
