After waiting for my results to come out, I am at a dilemma. I was accepted to Stanford early, and to Princeton and Yale regular. I have decided that I am down to Princeton and Yale, as I want to stay closer to home (I am from NJ). Each school is about the same distance from me. Please don’t say choose Stanford, as I have decided I do not want to go.
I am unsure whether or not to commit to either Princeton or Yale, as I believe that each school has its own merits. I am going to be full pay at both schools, so I do not mind costs.
Please give me your opinions on each. I plan on studying either international relations or biology, and I know that both schools have great opportunities and academic resources for both departments.
Please give me pro/cons on each school. I am having too much trouble deciding.
Our daughter had the same choice. My husband went to Princeton, so he pushed hard for that, but she chose Yale.
My husband’s reasons for preferring Princeton: undergraduate focus, (arguably) more science focus (our daughter’s interest) and great alumni costumes for the P-rade (LOL)
Our daughter’s reasons for choosing Yale: she didn’t like the eating clubs, liked the residential college system, wanted an urban environment, and wanted to irritate her father. Just kidding.
You really can’t go wrong with either choice. I hope you’re planning on attending admitted students’ days. That really helps crystalize things.
I agree that the two schools have different vibes and since you are close by I’d encourage you to attend both accepted student events. That may make the decision clear in your own mind.
The programs are close enough in ranking that it comes down to campus vibe imo. Do you tend to gravitate more towards urban or suburban areas? The student body is quite different as well.
@dolphin456 Obviously no bad choice here, but personally my first choice would be Princeton (actually my first choice would be Stanford but since you have made up your mind I am not going to say anything about it). The reason I would choose Princeton is the amazing undergraduate focus, the fact that it is a bit stronger in IR (you could do the Woodrow Wilson School undergraduate concentration at Princeton), Princeton has overall bigger focus/strength in sciences but both schools have more or less similar strength for biology/life sciences. One plus for Yale in terms of life sciences is access to med school and hospital research opportunities. Also the campus and surrounding location at Princeton is quite nicer in my opinion.
You should visit both and see where you vibe better. Fit is the number one consideration here. Are you attending visiting days for admitted students?
Hi everyone! I am a senior applying to both Yale and Princeton, but I am unsure of where to apply early to have the best chance at getting in. My GPA, test scores are high enough for the ivies, and most of my extracurriculars are science/research focused. I heard that Yale does tend to like females in STEM… would anyone give me some advice on which school to choose for the best shot at acceptance? Thank you!
