Yale vs. Williams for Computer Science

Hi all,

I’ve recently had the enormous privilege of being accepted to both Williams College and Yale, my two top choices for college. I have been bouncing back and forth between which is my top choice for months, and with the deadline to make a decision fast approaching, I have to figure it out quick. I’ve visited both schools several times, and I loved a lot about both and didn’t like some things. For example, Williams has a great student body and nice campus vibe, but is ridiculously isolated. Yale has a gorgeous campus and fantastic facilities, but the student experience feels a little bit disconnected (maybe just the sense I got… who knows). Anyway, I am hoping to major in CS. I know that Yale is known for comparatively weak sciences, but is currently preparing to dump obscene amounts of resources into it’s sciences departments, including the CS department. I’ve also heard (unconfirmed) that the undergraduate research opportunities at Williams are far better. Which school do you think is better for CS, both currently and down the line? Thanks so much!

Try looking in the on line catalogs and schedules to see what CS courses are offered and how often. Also, faculty rosters and their research interests.

I think for what I’ve read Yale CS is improving, just recently they change the curriculum or something like that. Check with the Yale forum for sure. I would pick Yale then if you love both schools.
