Yale's policy on the September ACT writing score problem

I’ve searched but see no indication that Yale admissions has responded to or has a policy yet to the ACT screw up with reporting writing scores. Has anyone seen anything yet?

Self-report all your scores as you have them – Composite, English Math, Reading and Science. Yale will receive your Writing score directly from the ACT’s Official Score Report. Many student’s are in the same situation as you, so no worries.

@Gibby…if only it were that easy. Common app does not allow reporting just composite score so S is left to leave it blank.
ACT, in press release, has suggested sending screen shots of students scores page which then indicate student’s composite score and pending writing score status but I doubt highly Yale will accept screenshots…ugh!
Thanks for the advice tho…

Yale will adjust how they do things for some student’s this year, such as reading a student’s complete file without the test scores – and then passing judgement on that student when the scores are received. After all, that’s how it works for student’s who apply in the SCEA cycle and take the November SAT test. The November SAT test results don’t come out till around Thanksgiving, but Yale still accepts those November scores and admits students that way every year. They’ll just do the same with the ACT test.

So, a student should complete the Common Application and self-report the scores they already have. The ACT should be reporting scores before Thanksgiving, so in the end, all student’s applying in the SCEA cycle will be considered.

S is recruited athlete who was told “if admitted” would receive LL 7-10 days out. So that won’t be happening. Coach has indicated AD will not consider application till all testing scores are received.
And someone just posted a message from Yale’s AD board in a different thread concerning October testing that indicates scores may not be considered for EA consideration.

Thanks! I’ve been watching that thread too but so far Yale only comments on October testing.

For many kids, the GC can mention the full scores or even send a screenshot. You can put a line or two in Addl Info to explain what was missing or delayed and what you have. If this is for recruiting, do what you can. If the coach isn’t aware enough and is just repeating old company policy, send something to admissions, indicating the full scores (fully identifying yourself, per requirements.)

As mentioned on the other thread, there was a royal screw-up with the last release of the CA. I don’t know if this will clear itself up. But adcoms will work around this the best they can.

Is this the same for Princeton also?? I am so nervous because I think the ACT writing scores aren’t going to be in by Nov 1st. Stupid ACT deciding to change the writing prompt during the fall >:P

AFAIK, Princeton has not said anything officially yet (the operative word being “yet”). Since Stanford has also said that October ACT scores are at risk, I would assume the same for all colleges at this point.

@skieurope I meant the Sept ACT, do you think Princeton would be understanding if the scores come in late because of this stupid writing score dilemna? Btw Stanford never did accept Oct ACT or Nov SAT for EA like the others such as Princeton, Harvard, Yale, etc.

I would assume Princeton will make allowances for the September test, but that direction will come from Princeton, of course.

So I’ve tried calling admissions directly to ask if they accept this ACT screenshot/ PDF thing and it’s a recording that says mailbox is full. Anyone have policy info about what ACT suggested as it refers to Yale?..
