So we can file our taxes , update FAFSA from 'will file taxes' to 'filed' and we are done . Other than waiting to see how the financial aid from school will be. I am happy.

I envy you! I changed jobs this year and still haven't gotten my W-2 from old employer. I am really hoping to get it soon . . .I hate to have to mess with the FAFSA twice, and try to get it completed before the deadlines at my sons' schools (Feb 15.) That would not be a biggie, usually, but just found out our CPA is going out of town till Feb 11, and last chance to see him before he goes if Friday. This always seems like a race to me.

Glad for you though!

Supposedly all this stuff has to arrive by the 31st right? So you have a day. The last forms we were waiting for were the ones from the people who tell us 'FILE EARLY!!!!' - yep the 1098Ts from the schools.

I think it only has to be postmarked by the 31st.

We are still (not)patiently waiting for two 1098T forms and one W-2. Hopefully they will arrive by this weekend.

I finally received my mom's W-2 in the mail yesterday. She went to the tax lady, and I filed online (turbo tax). I just got my FAFSA updated, changed status from "will file" to "already completed" and now I'm just waiting.

Hope everyone gets their required forms soon!

I did the FAFSA using my last paycheck stub and other end of year statements. Got my w-2 and remaining tax forms on Tuesday and had my taxes filed by 8 PM last night. Sent PDF's of the tax forms and W-2 to son in email; he should have dropped them at Financial Aid office today.

It makes me warm inside when aid paperwork is done before Feb 1. grin

I'm waiting for the 1098T also! I really don't want to estimate for FAFSA and then have to go back into the darn thing to correct it later. I have until Feb 15 and the school said I was fine even if I pushed the darn button on Feb. 15. But it is making me crazy (I know, I know, it's slightly neurotic...) I am learning a lot about my own personality during this process. I like things neat, packaged, tied up, and put away on the shelf. :)

Most schools will provide the 1098T online. Have you tried looking? That's where I got both ours.

I am confused. If you have the FAFSA in with "will file" before the date are you ok? I just got my W2's yesterday and we are still waiting on bank info as far as interest accrued on accounts. My DH owns his own business and therefore our taxes take at least a week to get back from the accountant and the deadline for the FAFSA for one of my D's colleges is today the rest are Feb 15th? Should I be worried? I filed the FAFSA with will file last weekend.

Yes, 3b, I looked online and I called the Bursar's Office. No luck. They don't have them yet! And I don't think they post online. Which is weird, because they are supposed to be in the mail today, by law. By the way, the website 1098-T, which says it posts the form for many schools, asks for students' SS number to identify them. I really don't want to post that, identity theft, etc. But has anyone had experience with this? Is it OK to post the Soc Sec #?

Mom of the Stars: My understanding is that if you filed, even with "will file," you have made the deadline. But maybe call the school just to be sure.

OK - I was being optimistic. Realized we actually don't have my Daughters W2 from her Work Study job - called her (boy is she grumpy today) and she called them and they apparently gave it to her Prof that she works for so she has to try and track it down. And she has a small bank account in her college town and they have not sent a 1099 yet - probably has about 60cents interest on it but I need it to finish her taxes. Can I get miss grumpy to go and get at least a copy of her statement from the bank so I can finish this off - no. Grr - this is getting frustrating.

I need to take some deep breaths and just forget about it for a few days - FAFSA is filed - I just need to correct it so - yeah - deep calming breaths deep calming breaths.....................................................

Funny! I emailed my D yesterday telling her to call me because I need to talk to her about her checking account at school (so I can know the miniscule amount of interest for taxes and the total amount for FA forms). Today I emailed her because I realized that though I worked out her college expenditures and scholarship money, I'd better get the 1098-T from the college to make sure my numbers are right.

And to think, this is only my second of eight years of doing this!
