I am a senior now and VERY interested in going to Cornell for my undergrad and potentially law degree. I am a high income, white male in Florida. My school is a private school with a usually high acceptance rate to top teir schools. Do I have a decent chance at Cornell? I visited and absolutely loved it.

Scores and E/C:
2280- SAT
34- ACT
Cum Laude
National Merit Scholar
National Honor Society
450 hours or so of community service (often 12 hours a week since sophomore year.. I worked my behind off here)
Young Democrats Club (Sophomore, Junior, and now senior years)
Young Republicans Club (See above, we could take both and I wanted to get a grasp of both sides)
Varsity Baseball (Freshman, Junior, and Senior Years)
JV Football (Freshman)
Model U.N. (Sophomore-Senior this year)
Debate Team (Junior and again this Senior year)
Math Club (Junior year)

Freshman Year- No AP or Honors, but got a 3.66 GPA
Sophomore Year- No AP or Honors, but got a 4.0
Junior Year- Took 4 AP classes and got A's in all of them, along with straight A's in all my other non-AP classes.
Senior Year- Taking 5 AP classes this year.

How am I looking? Does not taking AP/Honors in Frosh/Soph kill any chance I have? As you can see, I steadily increased and am now in the top 10% easily of my class. Thanks!

Also, are the Community Service hours going to help me out a lot? I know I qualify for a Bright Futures Scholarship (Florida based). Should I also include that?

by the way, I love Cornell and the day I graduate will be bitter sweet. I don't want to leave the place! Everything you could ever want in a college is here and the opportunities a place like this affords you are just awe-inspiring at times. Hope to see you on campus next fall...

0% chance unless you know which school/college within Cornell you're applying to. I don't know how anybody can give chance evaluations without knowing that. A 2400/4.0 can easily be rejected from ILR because they don't have any work or community service, just like how an 1800/3.5 can easily get into CALS by applying to the right major that fits their profile. Jeez.

By the way, Ray192 was referring to the fact that National Merit Scholars are announced in the spring of senior year. Right now you're a High Scorer, and soon you'll find out if you were Commended or a Semifinalist. That's it.

it is, of course, crucial and required that you know what school you are looking to apply to. also, once you have an idea or an interest, set out to pursue your interests in that field. your endeavours will be conveyed on your application and then you are set. well, not set but then you can breathe a little easier. you mentioned a law degree-

so maybe volunteering with a law firm? something that demonstrates your interest. when it comes down to it they have about 0375050724375 other applications with the same stats (i commend you on yours by the way, they are awesome) and if they want they can say, well, this kid says he wants to be a lawyer and this one too. this one volunteered at a law firm but has a slightly lower sat's.

and the thing is, there is a good chance they would take that kid.

so just DEMONSTRATE your interest and try to keep up with your heavy senior course load! but all things aside, i think you have a good good chance if you keep it up.

Ok, if you want to be a lawyer, you're not going to major in prelaw. Pick some interest and pursue that. I'm guessing you'd end up at ILR or CAS.

Well...i think you've gotten a pretty good chance considering the stats. The lack of leadership role is prob going to hurt you but you seem really dedicated and have lots of CS hours.
