Yep, this is another one of those shameless Chance threads

Hey Guys. So i applied to NYU Stern as an ED1 applicant, and i'd love to get some input about my chances. My stats are not that impressive, but i hope my diversity/EC's can pull some weight.
Possible hooks: I think im an URM, though i'm not sure. I've lived in egypt, Saudi arabia, Canada, and the USA (diversity). I speak 3 languages (arabic, english, and french).

So what do you guys think? Do i stand a chance?

Come on guys, 68 views and no input???

I’ll give ya my two cents but i should warn you, take what I say with a grain of salt cause I’m applying to stern ED as well and since i haven’t (hopefully) got in, I don’t really know what they’re looking for.

Your ACT and GPA look on par with what the average stats say it takes to get into NYU, but I hear Stern is a bit harder in terms of stats (thats had me freaking out for a good bit of time actually.)

Your coursework looks challenging in terms of number of IB and AP courses but I’m curious. Are you taking IB french and AP french the same year? (if thats the case then your only taking 5 different subjects due to all the doubles) I’m not sure how that looks exactly.

Your ECs are really awesome! I thought mine were good but yours put mine to shame. so thats a definite bonus!

You’ve got some really cool places that you’ve lived but i don’t know exactly how you go about telling them that.
Also even if it doesn’t help I’m pretty jealous of your language abilities. (Languages are kind of my hobby… yea i’m a nerd)

All in all I’d say you’ve got a really good chance.
Hopefully we both get in and you can teach me some Arabic :D

Haha, thanks man. I really appreciate the thoughtful response. And to answer your question, yes i take ap and ib as the same class, it’s just 2 years of work condensed into 1 year. I told them about where ive lived through the essay. But yea, your stats will get you in for sure, and you have good EC’s as well. good luck, and hopefully we both make it!

Well, your ACT falls at exactly the bottom of the 50% or rather, the 25th percentile. The average GPA for NYU is 3.63 - so your GPA is low compared to most other students. I would say that you have a shot, but not an overly good one. Stern is the hardest school to get into. And the above GPA and ACT are for all of NYU, which means Stern’s stats are even higher. You probably fall in the bottom 20%. That being said, you still have a change.

IB Athlete:

Because your school is ranked 17th in the US (mine, coincidentally, is ranked around that), I would think that the admissions committee would be more forgiving of your GPA considering that you probably took a very heavy courseload. So I don’t think GPA is a huge problem for you.

But your ACT is a bit problematic, though. NYU2013 is correct- your ACT falls near the bottom of the range. The range is even higher for Stern, however, so your ACT will hurt you. If you have a higher math section score than everything else, your ACT should be slightly forgiven as Stern, a business school, emphasizes math proficiency.

Your EC’s are outstanding. Much better than mine. Not many can say they created a popular online video blog.

All in all, Stern is a reach for you statistically but if you beasted the supplement and commonapp essay then you would, in my opinion, stand a fighting chance.

@NYU2013: Thanks, i appreciate your input. I could’ve taken the easy road and not enrolled in to the IB and AP programs from the beginning, but i chose to challenge myself and have my GPA suffer a little bit. Hopefully NYU will recognize that. Hope you’re enjoying yourself over there :).

@Justspice: I hope they are forgiving. As i just mentioned, the combination of IB and AP for 4 years has been difficult, though colleges should appreciate my hard work. Test taking is not my strong suit, so your ACT point is definitely valid. Yea, hopefully My Ec’s, essays, recs, and ED applicaiton will help me out. Thanks again for the info.

i’m sooo nervous =/ applied ed stern and couting down the days! chance me guys? thnks

much appreciated guys!

You can never go wrong with a 35 ACT. As long as your classes were AP or IB, then you’re in for sure.

most of my classes have been ap classes. thnk you so much! good luck to you

anybody else???

Bummmmmmmmmmp. I’m starting to feel the nerves just like everyone else! I need some viewpoints. anybody have constructive opinions on my chances?

Hey, I also have a video-based online blog/forum/etc. EC and I applied to Stern ED1 as well.

If we both get in, we should meet up, maybe join a club that focuses on combining business and online media, or even start our own!

Really? that’s awesome. I know first hand that these types of things take a lot of time and effort, so i always appreciate someone who is also interested in online media!

Though the chances of my being accepted tomorrow are slim to none. I’ve been rummaging through the forums here, and my stats aren’t even comparable to other people’s. though if by some crazy miracle i do get in, i would love to start a project with you! Either way, we’ll see tomorrow. Good luck man.
