I GOT A 35 on the ACT Math!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
But I got a 19-ewwwww- on the science section- it was my first time taking the science section though- any tips for science?????????????????????????????????????

Keep practicing. The ACT science section is the one that kills ACT's reputation for being a straightforward test, which the other sections reinforce. While the science questions are worded clearly, the choices can be tricky. You need to think through each one. Don't be hasty on the science section. For the science section, practice makes perfect.

Speed is key.

well, thats the thing, I wasnt fast enough, I gotlike 20/23 right, then 17 I didnt do

never never never read the passages before you read the questions....just go straight to the questions and they will tell you where to look for the answers...if you are still confused skim the beginning paragraphs..the only passage you may want to read is the one on arguing scientists...

My reading skills suck, so I guess that leads to the question, how do I improve on reading.

1)Just keep practicing by reading passages and answering questions?

2)What is a good book to learn helpful tips for reading?

3)For reading, is the Sparknotes workbook good?

do the real ACT book

Read the question, then go back for the info. Pretty much the only tip to give.

You did better than I did on the math though(2 33's on that).

read the questions and answer choices carefully (but quickly) and then go back for the relevant information in the passage, making sure you look at ALL the info on the graph. when i took it, i misread the time on the board (thought it said 11:31 stop, it actually read 11:37) so i rushed through that section, not reading any of the passages and thinking i'd do absolutely horrible (i had the last problem finished right around 11:31), but i ended up getting a 32 on that section (my lowest section). good luck

I actually find it easier to read the passages first and then answer the question. It may work for others to read the questions first, but not for me. I always read the passage, then the question. I had a 36 on the Science.

I read questions then the passage. Also a 36.

How can you read the passage(assuming much, if any, evaluation of the passage).

do u really need to know science for the science section? I mean that section seems only very analytical. I have just done the sample questions though.

You don't need to know science for the science section to get a 34 or so. On the April ACT, there were two questions that required previous knowledge. Most people--not me, though--would say a 5th grader would know these: Where does photosynthesis occur? (chloroplasts) and What is the C6H12O6 in the photosynthesis reaction? (sugar).

All you need to do to get a 36 is know how to analyze diagrams, graphs, and tables of information. Reading the passage helps a lot, but it is not required, particularly if you've already seen the situation before (as many people have in the case of the effects of the wavelength of light on photosynthesis--on the April test).

I don't understand why you're asking about reading, owen zhang, the science section has nothing to do with reading skills. Every once in a while, there is a question that is answered in the passage, but it is stated directly; you don't even need to infer. All you need to do is learn to interpret diagrams, graphs, and tables better and faster.

Practice probably does make perfect on the science section, though it's by all means not needed.

I got a 35, btw--with no practice.

science is the one section that practice wont help you. Its skimming whatever diagram they throw at you and not checking your answers- you really cant recheck anything.

I got a composite score of 32 and a science score of 32.

What you do is read the questions, and then look back at the charts/graphs.
My suggestion is to buy the Kaplan's ACT Comprehensive Program book. It has online activities and the best strategies, it's an excellent book. It helped me raise my score from 25 the first time I took it to 32 (but then again, the first time, I fell asleep cold during the science section and woke up with 8 minutes left and filled in bubbles randomly).
But really, read through the science tips in that book and you'll be golden.
