Yet One More Math Question for Cal Poly SLO app

Hey everyone,

I just popped by this area to check and see when people typically hear from CPSLO and am now seeing that my son also made the same mistake for his application and did not add his math class from 8th grade, which counted as Algebra. There is no way to put that course on his high school transcript as it was not technically called Algebra and it wasn’t one of the ones he was given the opportunity to add last year (he only has Spanish 1 from middle school on his official transcript).

So for all you that know the rules of admission - does this mean that he won’t be able to be admitted because he technically has no Algebra 1 listed anywhere and won’t ever have it listed?

From other threads, I calculated his MCA score at 4719, but I had heard the first round of cuts just goes by the GPA/test scores/transcript points and doesn’t take into account any extra curriculars until the second round of review. His GPA/test score/transcript MCA is a 4379.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

So just in case this problem happens for anyone else:

I just called them and they confirmed that the system is automated, so it only counts what is listed. When they verify things later on, the humans know that taking Algebra 2 as a freshman means you took Algebra and Geometry in middle school, but for the actual admissions decision, if it is not on the app, it doesn’t count.

The counselor I spoke to said that because our son didn’t list Algebra as a course he took, he would miss out on the 250 MCA points, bringing him to a 4719 instead of a 4969. Very disappointing, but there is nothing we can do now. They were adamant they do not allow changes to reported courses after the app has been submitted.
