Has anyone ever done a summer abroad with YFU? How is it? Is it worth it? Or should I spend my summer relaxing with an internship, traveling and job?

I've never done it, but hope to this summer. I just submitted my application last week. From what I've seen/heard, it seems like an amazing program and I look forward to it if I get in.

My son went to Japan 2 summers ago with YFU between sophomore and junior year. He had a GREAT experience! He won a scholarship which made it possible. He had a wonderful family and still keeps in touch with them. Good luck!

what is YSF?

deb1225 -- I applied for the Japan program this summer (and scholarships too, but I don't know if I'll get one). I would love it if you could PM me or have your son email me telling me more about his experience. I have an idea from the website, but I would really appreciate a first hand account from someone that actually experienced it. Where in Japan did he live? What was it like? Was it easy to adjust to Japanese life? Did he have any study of the language beforehand? Any information you or he could give would be great. Thanks!

mewantcollege -- I have no idea what YSF is either. But if you meant YFU (^_^), then it stands for Youth For Understanding. They're an organization that has exchange programs for a ton of different countries. You stay with a host family for the time that you are in your host country.
