Yo! Any applicants to U of MN here?

What banks does UMN have on campus?

TCF Bank in several locations (that's the biggest bank in Minnesota), and I think I recall seeing U.S. Bank also. I'll try to keep an eye out the next time I visit campus to see what else is nearby. There must be Wells Fargo either on campus or very close to campus, because that is another big bank in Minnesota.

How about Bank of America, by any chance? Maybe at least close to campus?
...I'm applying to UMN and BU and I'm trying to figure out where I can deposit money ASAP without having to transfer it when I find out where I'm going for sure. Plus, ATM fees are no fun at all.

Does Bank of America have a Web site to show its branch locations? I know it's not a big brand here, but I don't know which ATMs may have fee-free access for Bank of America account holders.

Any opinions on dorm choices?

Middlebrook is the honors dorm, but am wondering if it is too far away from
everything else since it is the only dorm on the west bank.

Recently visited the U of MN and was visiting friends living in Middlebrook...
D & my impression was that the rooms were VERY tiny (smaller than any we had visited before) and the hallways were kind of dark and dreary.

Co-ed, not segregated by floors but separated by the elevators. Have to walk down the hall to shared bathrooms.

It was the only residence hall we saw.

At my walking pace, Middlebrook is plenty near the East Bank classroom locations (my son and I timed that walk recently), and it is even nearer to the largest library on campus and to the bus stops for the campus shuttle buses.

I haven't been inside Middlebrook for many years, but I'll have to have my son take a tour sometime and compare it to the summer program dorms he has been in over the last few years. I think the honors dorm would be a good atmosphere for a qualifying student. Something like 90 percent of the Institute of Technology honors students live in the honors dorm.

There are no Bank of America buildings in Minnesota. Go with Wells Fargo or TCF.

The Middlebrook dorms are def. not very far from everything. The walk from West bank to East bank is approximately 5-10 minutes, 3-4 by bike.

Middlebrook rooms are rather small, but the superblock-housing rooms aren't much better. Pioneer, for example has no elevators, etc... etc...
