My son had similar stats (lower rank, top 2%, and a couple less APs - he also began taking them in 10th grade). Next year, he'll start PLME at Brown. He didn't apply to Northwestern - don't know much about that program.

Your stats prove that you're smart but that's just part of it. Try to show that you're fun and interesting and an asset to the college you want to attend. Are you a deep thinker or just a good test taker? Your essay and ECs are a way to show your personality - what makes you unique and multi-layered. Show the college HOW you will add to both the intellectual environment and the social climate.

thank you very much for the advice. also, congratulations to your son! how were his ECs?

I'm going to be a freshman in HPME next year, and I think you have a really good shot at both man. Just be sure to write a good essay.

congratulations! thanks a lot i'll do my best. would you mind pm-ing me your stats?

by the way, i just got AP results back. will those be a factor at all?

Old:
Chem 5
Euro 5

New:
Bio 5
Calc 5
Lang 5
Stats 5

Your stats are really solid, I think your EC are good too. I think your chances are good if you can write a good essay, and if you are invited for an interview, you present yourself as more than just scores. Show them why you're unique and why they should take you.

ooh, those are some nice stats.

yea those are the type of stats that inspire ppl

chokes back tears Yes, truly inspiring!

Wow, with stats like that there is no chance for people like me..

You are surely inspiring, by the way, how did you do so well on the Critical reading section??

All the best with everything I am sure you don't need any luck.

haha okay thanks for the confidence boost, everybody. I feel better about my chances now.

Nandi08: My strategy for the CR section was to memoroze the definitions of thousands of words (there are good SAT Vocab lists available online.)

To improve my reading skills, I read The Onion every day during the summer before my SAT date.

Thanks, good luck to you too.
