Supplements often change for most schools, so I would advise against doing those essays until Common App for our year is released on August 1st.

That being said, the main essays (extracurricular and the six-option question) stay the same, and I’ve just begun trying to pick a theme for the six-option. c:

LOL if you were referring to high school class of 2017, I’d be a bit scared…

I’m pretty much a perpetual procrastinator so if I had it my way, college essays would be the last thing on my mind right now. Unfortunately my parents decided to hire a ridiculous college counselor (worst. idea. ever.) who is forcing me to write an insane number of essays by August, so I’m being pushed against will to start working on them. Hurray. I suppose it’s all for the best…but it’d be great if I could enjoy even a little bit of my summer -_____-

I started working on Stanford and some UC prompts. The CommonApp prompts are all so…bleh! Boring. I can’t figure out how to craft those for the life of me.

One of the schools I’m applying to has rolling admissions & just two personal statements that are 500 words total, so I started on that one. Haven’t started on either of the CA colleges I’m applying to, though. I’m taking a week off from work in the first week of august to set up my CA & start getting everything settled.

I totally can’t believe it’s already our turn to start filling out applications…

also, @nygiants27,
you’re so lucky! I know having a college counselor sucks because you have to do work over your summer (I really do know that sucks) but you’re still lucky if the counselor helps at all, and I don’t think your parents would have spent the money if he/she won’t help any.
I can’t afford a college counselor, and have no idea what to write for the personal statements that I’m starting on… they don’t teach you how to make your self sound good in essays in high school…

“I totally can’t believe it’s already our turn to start filling out applications…”

THIS.

You’re lucky you have rolling - I’d love to start filling everything out now, since I won’t have a lot of time during the school year. But I’ve heard horror stories of people writing before Common App was out and then having to rewrite entire essays because the prompt changed. Too much work. I’m too lazy to risk it. xD

Hahaha, high school class of 2017, anyone? Just me?

Kidding…
I actually did start! We had to write a common app essay for my english class during 11th grade, and I wrote a second one on my own. Not sure if it’s any good though…

I’m definitely super excited to finally start applying to colleges, I’m just itching to get out of high school.

Is anyone just diving right in on these?

I think I’m just gonna read the 50 Harvard Essays thing and wing it after that…

@karatekid

i kind of did, i just woke up yesterday morning with this sudden inspiration to write. it needs some editing but i’m hoping i’ll have more of these little “inspiration sparks” :D

I haven’t really started the writing process but I did start brainstorming haha. UNC Chapel Hill supplement questions are out, if anyone’s interested in UNC!

Thanks for the notification, I plan on applying!

Ooh, I’ll go look! I’m debating applying there - I have a small chance of getting in unless they want me for music or sports or something. Which is entirely possibly.

I’ve written 1 so far… don’t feel like writing anymore right now but perhaps I should. :)

Georgetown released theirs. I’m working on them. Not doing great. The rest of my schools are on the CA, so I’m waiting for that

I have a solid CA draft, but its a little all over the place so I need to focus it and make it more about myself. I have one Why x school? draft, but I’m pretty sure the school I wrote it for doesn’t have that as a supplemental question -__- … So to answer your question, yes. I originally planned to complete drafts of all my applications over the summer, except I have no clue where I’m applying…

Our HS Counselor told us that Common App reported it is NOT changing the essay prompts for next appliation cycle, so we for sure can get started on those.

I have a rough draft of my personal statement for the UCs I’m applying to…and I just registered for Common App…other than that, no :D

You can google Common App preview and get all of the prompts for 2012-13 CA.

To the person who said the questions are so bland, I KNOW. NO ROOM FOR CREATIVITY AT ALL BLAHHHH.

I’m trying to figure out how to tackle the “Why do you want to go here?” question in a unique way…but I’m definitely struggling. Haha.

Also I still think it’s crazy that we have to actually THINK about this stuff now…for the past three years, I’ve always said, “I have more time!” but now I realize I don’t. :(

@rubbish I had no idea gtown released theirs! I’m prob gonna tackle theirs along with UChicago and Hopkins first
