You Can do it ! (Must Read) - International Students

One year ago , i decided to study in the US. Although i wasn't really a brilliant student , i decided that i was going to aim for top colleges only ( or 50k/year wouldn't have been worth it).
So i did my SAT, scored a mere 1830 . Scored a 7 on the IELTS. My average at school was a 14-.15/20 (wish honestly is quiet good for the french system).
Guess where i got accepted? UC BERKELEY!
This really shows that everything is possible, just focus on your application and especially the essays (AND IM STRESSING ON THIS).
Thanks for all the tips and valuable information i gained on CC it was really helpful.
and 1 last tip: Never post a Chance me thread on CC its cr*p and nonsense

if you can pay the full price tag you suddenly become the most desired international student at most US colleges

agree with @student970 because you could pay the full freight you were accepted.

I am very happy to hear about your achievement(If it’s true!).and have to strongly disagree with the people who have posted above me. I was willing to pay full sticker price, had a score of 2100, a 81% average H.S grade, stellar extracurriculars ( Did an internship in the labs of a multinational, worked at a top ranking national university, IIT Bombay, had 80+ hours of community service ) yet I was rejected by every Ivy I applied to (Heck, even Purdue , UDub and UCLA did not give me my desired major ).
Today I am deciding between Case, Rensselaer, UCSC and UCSD and what I have learnt from all this is that college admissions is hardly black and white, it just doesn’t depend upon SAT scores, GPAs and your financial backing .

I’m 9/13 accepted with high financial need.
The truth is: Don’t be from Asia. It that unfair.

What posters 1 and 2 should have said: if you have decent scores and native country board exam results, AND ARE FULL PAY, you can get into any PUBLIC university in the US save for UVA, UMich, and UNC-CH. UCB used to be that hard too, but the UC system is so cash-strapped that if you pay 50k they’ll take you provided you rank in the top 10% in your country (which your grades indicate.)
For Private universities, it’s another matter, and for students with high financial need, it’s another matter too.

NEVERTHELESS:

*** CONGRATULATIONS!!!****
This is wonderful

Where else were you admitted?

oh come off it. okay, a 1830 is a bit thick for Berkeley, but I can tell you for a fact that the money issue is alive and well, and not just in America. international students have a much better chance at british universities - LSE, UCL, Imperial, though not Oxbridge - because they’re committing to 12000 grand instead of the domestic 9000. think of how many low-income geniuses you can fund with that money.

Accepted: BU Northeastern UCSD Berkeley
Rejected: UCLA Umich Usc

Have you decided where you’d like to go?
