You got in: What's next?

So after all of you who've been admitted received the news via phone call (if you did get a phone call) I'm assuming you then received your fedex package. What's in the package? How long until you received your financial aid/scholarship awards? Lastly, how long did it take for you to receive your transfer evaluation?

Thanks!

Your packet should arrive soon, and by soon I mean in the next few days (sometimes people receive packets the day after they get their acceptance call).

The most important order of business is scheduling an Academic Planning Session (APS). There you will be apprised of many of the inner-workings of academic life at Columbia. You will be emailed a copy of your transfer credit evaluation in the next week or so. From my experience, they are pretty generous with transfer credit. If you feel that they have short-sided your transfer credit, you should dispute it. I have heard instances where they granted the full 60 units after such disputes. At the (APS) you will, most likely, receive your core satisfaction evaluation. This paper will tell you what classes you have transferred in with regards to the core (this sheet is very important, and will shape your first few semester schedules at Columbia).

Welcome to Columbia University!

Once you send in your deposit you can also get your UNI, which is your email address and student id. You’ll want to know this soon, because all the offices you deal with (UAH, FinAid, Advising, Facilities/Security, whatever) use it to look you up.

Do you have to get your admissions package before you send your deposit, or can you write a check? I’m an obsessive person and naturally, want everything done as accurately and as soon as possible lol

HAha same here Philly. I already finished my master promissory note for Columbia financial aid, and everything else involving financial aid except for handing in my 2010 taxes because I still cant log into the financial aid portion of the site. I think we should have a fed-ex package by Friday.

I am already searching apartments in the city in case I am ineligible for a room because of how close I am to the school. I live about 45 minutes away with traffic but I still would like to be within walking distance.

The form you have to submit with the check arrives with the acceptance package. Patience my friend :-)
