You have to be a senior to enter Siemens and Intel?

Then how is everyone including Siemens and Intel on their apps? I'm a rising junior and I want to enter research competitions, but so many of them are exclusive to seniors. D:

You can enter Siemens with a group project or the Intel Science and Engineering Fair before senior year, but not Intel STS or Siemens with an individual project. I’m not completely sure about the timeline, but I believe that a lot of the results in the contest come out early enough in senior year that they could possibly be used in decisions.

siemens regional results will be out before nov 1 deadline for schools, and national results by Jan 1 deadline.

Intel STS will not make it application deadlines, you you can update them if you make it.

How long does it take for the results to come out, from the time you enter the competition?

bumppppppp?

Siemens takes about 3 weeks (due ~early October, results come out right before early apps are due). If you make the national finals (top 6 team and top 6 individual projects), that takes place in early December.

Intel takes 2 months (due mid-November, semifinalist results come out mid-January). The top 40 finalists are announced late January, and they compete for the top 10 prizes in early March. So you’ll know whether or not you’re a semifinalist right after RD apps are due, which means you’ll have to send an update if you get it, but the colleges will definitely still receive it in time.

Would the results for Siemens national finals come out before RD apps are due?

^Yes. 10 char.

I wish both organizations push their deadlines to after the RD apps, so that people enter because they’re truly excited about research rather than to gain some perceived edge in college admissions .
