You have to hear this! Audiobooks

Look for this symbol and you should be able to switch devices.

Just finished Martin Short’s I Must Say, My Life as a Humble Comedy Legend…and I must say it was really good - written and narrated by Martin, he sings, plays piano, does his verbal impersonations, and more, so much more that would be lost in a physical book. I never thought much of him (except his live stage productions) but what a prolific talent! And as I want to do, I cried. More than once.

We have a long drive coming up in early July and we are thinking we will try an audiobook. I’ll look through this thread but I can see it’s harder to find something we both would like and one of us hasn’t already read.

If you both like music and the music of the 70’s I’m finishing Daisy Jones and The Six (also mentioned above) and it’s an interesting easy listen and only about 9 hours on 1x speed. Goes fast.

I’ve already read the book. It’s good as is Carrie Soto is Back by the same author.

If no one else read it, you might want to give the audiobook a try anyway. It’s a great listen with a full cast. Great for a road trip.

Any particular genres would work best? How about something new The Covenant of Water?

I thought The Hearts Invisible Furies was a great audio.

Julia Whelan narration is always great IMO. You could sort by that and pick one. I thought The Great Alone was particularly good. Educated is probably something we’d listen to together on a road trip.

The Silent Patient might be good on a road trip too and not super long.

The Dutch House is narrated by Tom Hanks and also great.

No fantasy. Also hope to find something available through Libby the library app.

Have you read the ones I mentioned? You could see if any are available.

No fantasy is VERY broad :joy:

We’ve read The Dutch House and The great alone, Educated. We both read daily. The library either doesn’t have the others or it an estimated long wait. If it comes close to the trip I pm. Ot opposed to buying something.
I’m going to look into the reader you mentioned.

I believe I can gift an Audible book from my library. Shoot me a DM if you can’t find in Libby.

I like Marin Ireland too - im guessing you read Beartown?

Going back through my books “The Girl with the Louding Voice” was also a fantastic audio that really brought the characters alive (but it took a minute to get used to the accent)

Thank you. I can get The girl with the loudest voice from the library.

Its a great book! I hope you like it. I hope you come back and share your thoughts after your trip.

I recently downloaded The Covenant of Water to my kindle but am listening to the Fourth Wing before I get started.

I just saw some outstanding praise for the audio, though, so I think I might get it on Audible instead. Has anyone listened to it yet? Cutting for Stone is on my list of best ever (can that be a list?) so I am excited for this one.

Really enjoying Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano. It is narrated by Maura Tierney.

I just finished Michelle Obama’s “The Light We Carry” on audiobook. Another one that because we know her voice and tone, it makes it all the more pleasurable. Love hearing her stories of her life and applying them to life perhaps for others. About a 9 hour on 1x read.

I am part way though West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge and it is an excellent story and works well as an audio book. I am sure it was recommended by someone here on CC - thank you.

I didn’t think I would like the narrator at first and then he really grew on me and his voice works so well - it is like listening to someone telling you a story as you are all sitting around a fire.

Love the story and the voice

I liked Ruth Reichl’s “Save me the Plums” about her experiences as the editor of Gourmet magazine. She’s a good storyteller and gives recipes. Started Prince Harry’s “Spare” but found it dull. Listening to Bono’s “Surrender” now. His language is poetic and he incorporates music and other sounds, which is interesting.
