you know the drill.

Rising Senior. All girls prep school ( usually about 8/55 girls go to Ivies and 30-32/55 go to highly selective schools i.e. georgetown, duke, uva, middlebury, colgate, pomona, nyu, williams, northewestern blah blah blah.)

GPA: 3.42 W ( hopefully will be 3.5 W by end of first trimester.. I had a rough soph. yr with 3 B- that brought it down alot due to personal issues but I have decided not to include it in my app. because I dont want to discuss with my school however, i have brought it up from a 3.30 at beginning of dec. jr year). median gpa 3.51

SAT ( taking again)
M: 640
V: 750
W: 660

I really have worked really hard during highschool but sophomore year really screwed me over. I had a really bad year because of personal stuff and in particular got a couple C's during spring trimester ( when everything was the worst ) which messed me up the most. I will transfer if I have to but I am just wondering what you think my initial chances are at the following, if I apply as an English major ( although I want to switch to eng. and business):

BU
Notre Dame ( legacy/ many many family connections)
George Washington
Emory
Georgetown ( legacy/ connections) but would transfer out later.
Johns Hopkins
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell
Syracuse
NYU
Fordham

thanks.

please?
i will chance anyone if they do me.

I think if you bring up your sat scores, you should be in a better place. I know, from experience haha.
Being that your gpa is slightly on the low side, I would maybe give some idea if you have to submit a form to your school (we do) explaining why you might have done poorly in some area or some time. I understand you don't want to share it with your school and thats fine, but maybe give them something to try and compensate for that. If not, try and write some amazing essays and get a good teacher to write a rec, is my idea.

BU-I think you have a fair chance, for sure here. (i'd say competitive seeing as I too do speech/debate and my friend got in here with lower test scores)

Notre Dame ( legacy/ many many family connections)-i'm not too sure about this school sorry.
George Washington-slight reach
Emory-reach
Georgetown ( legacy/ connections) but would transfer out later.-high reach (from what i've seen from them)
Johns Hopkins-medium reach
Carnegie Mellon-high reach
Cornell-reach
Syracuse-possible match, maybe slight reach
NYU-slight reach, maybe not
Fordham-i'm really not sure here. i'm thinking slight reach to match

Notre Dame should be no struggle at all. You have excellent ECs, but you probably should work on those SAT scores (mine are worse, so feel better!).
I know that legacy is important there, and I also know some people who aren't, er, particularly amazing who have been admitted.

At NYU it really depends on a lot of things... Would you need financial aid, for instance?

I can't comment on too much else, just that I wouldn't want to go to Cornell. Hah. ;)

I hope I helped at least a little!

I wouldn't need financial aid.
My essays should be good, I am actually " writing them" at the moment.
Also, I got my two best teachers who appreciate me the most for recs but one of them actually committed suicide over the summer so I will porbabley need someone else who might not be as amazing. Hopefully it works out. That makes me sound really insensitive to her death, I was just talking about the rec. part and not trying to make her death all about my apps.

also, any suggesstions for other schools? I want a business and liberal art prog. and approx. 5,000-12,000 undergrads. would prefer an urban/suburban enviroment preferably within 30 minutes of a city. ( ND is my exception to that)

can you guys do it for Uchicago and University of Michigan Ann Arbor, as well?
thanks

I'd say UChicago is a reach, and Michigan, if in-state, may be a high match, but OOs, reach.

Notre Dame ( legacy/ many many family connections)- id say its a safe bet then considering your well connected
George Washington-slight reach
Emory-reach
Georgetown ( legacy/ connections) but would transfer out later. - not too sure how much connections help here
Syracuse-safety

please chance me

BU - match
Notre Dame ( legacy/ many many family connections) - not sure how much that would affect your chances
George Washington - match
Emory - reach
Georgetown ( legacy/ connections) but would transfer out later. - reach
Johns Hopkins - high reach
Carnegie Mellon - reach
Cornell - high reach
Syracuse - safety
NYU - match/reach
Fordham - match/safety
Umich - reach
Uchicago - high reach

thanks guys.
Anyone have any suggesstions for safeties?
I want it to be aprox 5-12,000 students and an urban or suburban enviroment preferably within 30 minutes of a major city. Also, I want to be able to double major and have a minor. I want to major somewhere in business or economics and english-literature or preferably as a comparitive lit major.. few schools have it.
