You were just given the funding and power to open up you own University.

If you were to open up your own University, what would the requirements be to get in?
What would the most important factors be to get in?
How would you organize the school?
What would you name it?
What would the school's focus be?
Where would it be located?
What would the school's motto be?
What would be the school mascot?
What would be the school colors?
What would its rank be?
Who from College Confidential would you want to attend?

Please add questions if you think of them.

Essay would be the most important, then GPA, then ECs, then any standardized test scores. (Test scores not required)
It’s named (My last name) College, of course.
The school’s best departments are English and Neuroscience. All of the courses are writing intensive.
It is located in Maine.
The school’s mascot is… a ferret? I dunno they’re kind of cute. But also mean.
Maroon and black are the school colors.
Its rank should be ~20 on the LAC list, though our admissions officers disregard the rankings because USWNR college rankings are ridiculous.
Also, the college is all women’s, and heavily favors legacies.
There’s a huge drug scene, but very little alcohol. (I don’t know how I get to decide this, maybe I’m the head drug dealer or something. I’ll make it happen somehow.)
Seminars are favored over lectures, it’s a small school, about 12 to a class.
Beautiful~ campus, all Gothic style buildings, no architecture that screams I AM ABSTRACT LOOK AT ME.

Most the colleges I’m applying to are sort of like this, I just want to smush all their wonderful traits together into one bueno college.
Also, I really like this idea for a thread Anonymous. :)

It would be selective. Work outside of school will be more important though.

Volunteering, EC’s, GPA, and socio-economic factors. If I could, my school will have its own admissions test.

I would have a house system, each college will govern itself, but is still binded by the head of the university.

Gates University

It would have a strong focus on academic, but also very strong on sports. The main focus will be on liberal arts, and science.

It will located in Maine or somewhere in the Northeast. I want all four seasons.

“Veni, Vidi, Vici” which is latin for 'I came, I saw, I conquered" or “educandos animos volare excelsior caelo” which means “educating minds, to soar higher than the sky”

Lion

Blue and Crimson

My school wouldn’t care about ranking, but if it did it would be in the top 15.

Whoever is more than a number, and wants to learn and not be in a school for the name.

*Students can take any class they want, they can even create their own major. It would have Gothic architecture very similar to Oxford.

1) “Sort of Self-selective”, the only people who would really know about the school would be the one’s who are perfect candidates (like St. John’s - Annapolis)

2) The crux of the application would be on the essays which would all be “UChicago style” and abstract. EC’s would also be important as would GPA we would not require the SAT.

3) Board: In a “House System” similar to Caltech’s.

Education: Like Reed the focus will not be on grades, grades will exist but you will not be told them unless you go out of your way to find them out. Classes will be small enough that professors write a paragraph on the performance of each student (in lieu of a letter grade) every 3 weeks or so.

4) Bromley College

5) Focus on the Arts and the “Liberal Arts” with a particularly good Classics dept. and Creative Writing dept. Not much focus on athletics.

6) Concord, MA

7) I’d let the inaugural class create and vote on the motto.

8) The Raven

9) Dark, dark violet and white

10) It would not be highly ranked but anyone that matters would know what it is (like Reed)

11) CPA would be my first choice.

GPA average from 3.5 to 3.8; shows dedication in extracurriculars; decent SAT’s like 2000-2100. Must be social and interactive in the community.

Your essay and dedication to your general area of study

The buildings would be huge with 50 floors! Modern looking. None of those cramped, old halls. Large dorm rooms. Good teachers. Big desks! Must need large desks.
School of medicine: Hufflepuff
School of general science: Gryffindor
School of engineering: Ravenclaw
Undecided: Slytherin (mwahaha)

Name: Hogwarts University

Focus: This is the modern Hogwarts. Magic does not exist so the school is heavy on research and teaching students how to impact the world. Heavy focus in science, medicine, and engineering.

Located in surburban Philadelphia

Moto: “What is the purpose of life?”

Mascot: Pelican

Colors: Blue, yellow, and white

Rank: a rising college. Ranked 25th nationally

Intelligence and wanting to learn

What would the most important factors be to get in?
GPA and SAT scores and then my supplements, which would be like U Chicago’s weirder essays, but stranger. Also teacher/mentor recs would be very important. Maybe interviews would be important too, but I’d ask more academic questions in addition to “who are you?” questions.

How would you organize the school?
**-Some sort of houses that are not random “microcosms of the larger university,” but are chosen based on personality. (Think sorting hat).
-You never have to declare a major. You have to have a major to graduate, but you don’t have to choose early on.
-Lots of secrets. Like really secret societies (not frats or anything that hazes). Secret passageways and buildings. Secret classes and dorms, even.
-Small class sizes.
