@scientia3 Thank you so much for the information…and I agree with you. I feel like one of the reasons why this process is so full of anxiety is because people keep spreading these rumors, and misinformation, some of which don’t even make any sense. Why would YA possibly have the deadline for National YA’s week be on the 21st when the list comes out on the 28th!? I mean think about it! It makes no LOGICAL sense. What if someone happened to miss the phone call AND the Email!? That would be so unfair to them. And what if some haven’t even been notified yet because that is absolutely possible. I’ve read that there have been past Finalists who haven’t been notified at all but when the list came out their names were on there and THAT’S how they discovered they were finalists. Just one of many examples of the worries we’re all feeling skewing our senses of reason which isn’t helping anyone in any way form or shape and it’s starting to get annoying. I hate having my emotions toyed with and already my hope is just out the window.
Plus as good as the news sounds I’m sort of with @tatamang. It seems like there have been some Short Story winners and Finalists so I feel like this good news might not apply to me—I feel like all the Short Story winners have been notified. For this particular reason, I probably shouldn’t be giving up this quickly but from what I’ve heard about Short Story already having a few winners I’ve already lost more hope for my chances. Who knows, maybe if I’m lucky I’ll get notified next week? But I’m not going to give myself all this hope only to be more disappointed in the end. It sounds pessimistic but I really don’t know what to think anymore, and better to be realistic I guess.
ok when i said the 21st i wasnt trying to spread misinformation… the date was in BOLD in the email i got. maybe people who are notified later have more time to reply. just guessing. pls dont take that as fact. im just stating what ive experienced.
We understand that waiting can be stressful.? We are working hard to finalize and notify our 2019 winners. Please be patient as we have a lot of winners and only so many staff members. Don’t lose hope just yet! All winners (across award levels) will be notified prior to 12/1
peeplup I’m sure nobody is spreading anything intentionally. It’s hard when everyone has so little information. YA works hard to run this competition, conduct programming, support alumni and fundraise. I wish they had a more streamlined process for notification but they have limited staff to do all the good they do. There were conflicting dates on several platforms, not just here. Their official post on Twitter this afternoon is as close to the “horse’s mouth” that we’re going to get. Congrats on your win! Everyone will know the final results soon.
@Zoe528 ik one person who got cnf finalist (they got the call on the 14th) but like everyone said they’re like almost 100% not done notifying the subsection
a playwriting honorable mention from my school got notified yesterday but i applied for writing too (poetry) and im still waiting … i know YA is super subjective and has nothing to do with any of our futures as artists but this process is so nerve wracking
I honestly believe all of those emails went out on Wednesday and the only “notifications” that are still happening might be calls to Finalists. When I’ve heard of kids being notified yesterday, when you ask further when the email was sent it’s always been on the 14th but they just found it in their spam folder. I haven’t heard of one kid with an email dated any other day. Has anyone else? It’s not hard to send out mass emails all at once. Calling is different but even Finalists have gotten the emails on the 14th so I really have my doubts that YA is truly “still notifying winners”. Just my opinion based on doing this for the past 3 years with every year the notifications being different.
Well if notifications are truly over, then I guess I’m gonna throw a pity party in my room! ?? But congrats to everyone to won! Have a great time at YA regionals/nationals!
