Youngarts 2019-2020

@Lunarlitgend Aw, sweet! What genre? owo

@Tersina My genre is fantasy and my audience is young adult (no surprise there). I’m in the middle of the editing process right now and have been for a while. My issue is word count and it’s something I’ve been working on cutting down.
How about you? :slight_smile:

i’m from california and i got the call (not for CNF though) yesterday, if that helps at all

Has any visual artist in NY been notified yet? (if so, congrats!!!)

Honestly I am not even expecting anything lol, a merit will do me justice haha

I’ve been busy with school, but for anyone who’d like to know about my typo - I typed ā€œstrinkingnessā€ instead of ā€œstrikingnessā€ slaps forehead

I entered in poetry and wrote one about womanhood and the moon, one about gun violence, and one about loss of innocence. I’m pretty sure I know a lot of you on this thread (and I wave to the three lurking friends who know exactly who I am), but you guys are getting my hopes up with the fact that a typo might not equal a loss. Good luck to everyone who is not yet a confirmed finalist :smiley:

also @ashymustard I know a fair amount of college people who have entered and/or won Youngarts, so other than winning US Presidential Scholar of the Arts you’d still qualify for everything else.

@Tersina Sure!
wattpad: infiorescent
nanowrimo: efflorescence

I’m trying to stay positive about the work that I did for my visual arts submission, but I feel like my essay was to personal or not good enough. Trying not to loose hope though even though this has been the most stressful week ever lol :neutral:

Congratulations, @winterbourne ! What is your genre?

So it sounds like we have at least SEVEN finalists on this thread:
@pandaberry, @quisquillosa, @bluets in Short Story.

@beautifulchaos in poetry

@jollyballoon in Theatre.

@bassman81 in Music.

…and @winterbourne!

Congratulations to all and let’s keep this party going!

@BookLvr thank you! i entered in writing/poetry

When do y’all think calls will start going out today?
The earliest call I’ve heard of so far is around 1 in the afternoon.

(As you can see, my nerves are growing each day-)

1 eastern time?

Do you guys think all finalist calls have gone out? I haven’t seen a finalist in photography yet, and that’s the genre I applied in, along with poetry, but I don’t have much hope for poetry. I wish they would just release the list instead of this nonsense :frowning:

@Imshreyads
I’m not sure. It was the friend of someone on this thread. They were notified for Theatre, I believe.

@shysquid I doubt it! This is only day 3, and last night YA replied to a comment on Twitter about how notifications and confirmations will continue into next week!
I haven’t heard of any photography winners yet, though.

Has anyone received anything today? Somehow it seems most notifications are out. It seems that way :frowning:

did emails for finalists go out at the same time?

I also applied for photography (haven’t heard anything or seen any finalists yet) and poetry. In terms of poetry, I’m starting to lose hope to be honest. Just from this forum and then social media, there are already 5 poetry finalists. One year they had only 2 poetry finalists, so I’m thinking that 5 is probably all there is, but then again who can really be sure. I have no idea if YoungArts is actually continuing the calls into next week… :frowning: FINGERS CROSSES FOR PHOTOGRAPHY THOUGH

This is probably a weird and stupid question but do students who go to arts based high schools usually have a higher chance of getting picked?

Has anyone gotten a call today?

I just called them because I’m a nervous wreck. A YoungArts representative said that she was actually in the middle of calling people right now, and it takes so long because it takes a while to get confirmation from all the finalists and to reach them. I asked if they have a ā€œB-listā€ that they ask if the A-list can’t make it, and she said yes! Try to stay calm and don’t be too nervous, but all hope for finalist is not lost yet!
