Youngarts 2019-2020

@shysquid wow shocked i was actually right about the B list lol. I figured thats the only way it made sense that they let all the levels know at different times. I think they wait to see what finalists confirm and then send out the list of merit and honorable mention after those confirmations-- because basically then if someone declines then honorable mention people would be called i guess.

im freaking out too!! i just want to know already!

for those who already got finalist calls-- when did youngarts tell you to confirm by?

I wonder how many people are involved in this calling process?

I assume all short story finalists have been called already? So sad I didnā€™t win this year but maybe I got honorable mention or merit. This competition is so subjective it hurts ?

Iā€™m confused, can someone explain the A and B list thing? Thanks for the info by the way!!

does anyone know how many finalists have been notified for visual arts so far?

A list people are notified first but if they decline then YA probably turns to their B list for recognizing finalistsā€“though Iā€™m not sure if their B list are HM/Merit winners they feel are deserving of finalists or something

@remi01 im assuming the reason they wait to publish all levels is because if a finalist declines they probably take the highest scored HM person in that category and make them a finalist

It almost feels like a prolonged death sentence. lol

@gmfalv I was given until 11/20 to confirm

@winterbourne ok great! so then i would assume by the end of next week all finalists will be accounted for and then once that happens theyā€™ll email everyone else.

i guess thatā€™s why different disciplines sometimes get earlier HM/Merit results-- once all the finalists in a given category accept/decline they can let everyone else know.

@winterbourne to confirm you will attend the YoungArts week in Miami? I assume that if you canā€™t go, you still remain a finalist? Is that correct, or must you agree to attend in order to be named a finalist?

@kdm1582 I donā€™t really know what the A and B lists that another post talked about mean, but yes, the confirmation is for attending National YoungArts Week. Iā€™m pretty sure that even if a finalist isnā€™t able to go, theyā€™re still a finalist; theyā€™re probably just not eligible for the higher levels of cash awards.

I find it hard to believe anyone would decline the opportunity to attend the YoungArts finalist program but I suppose a few might have international travel planned or audition/school-related conflictsā€¦or maybe they are on tour with a big name band or something! I know that finalists must commit to the entire week so that may come into play. Keep the faith!

@AmyIzzy i would assume maybe scheduling conflicts

@winterbourne
Ah, a fellow Californian! Congrats on being a finalist! I guess if theyā€™re calling based on region Iā€™m a lost cause, haha.

Have any of you heard of any Creative Nonfiction finalists yet? There were 7 last year, I believeā€¦

@osun001 I also submitted to CNF! I havenā€™t heard of any, but Iā€™m getting nervous. Are they extending the notifications through next week as well?

Anyone know if calls are still going today? Asking cuz they have their alumni show case going on rn

So how much longer are they going to be calling finalists? I just want to know what day I can officially stop stressing ?

are finalist notifications done? even if they didnt finish calling wouldnt all the emails have been sent out already?
