YoungArts 2020-2021

I reread a great comfort book called “Fangirl.” If you’re looking for a comfortable and addicting read I recommend it (unless you’re not into rom com novels lmao). “Housekeeping” is so amazing too and “the most fun we ever had.”
Queens gambit on Netflix is great too!! Do you have any suggestions?

ooo. Series of Unfortunate events is really good. For music, anything of Brahms really hits the spot(the chamber pieces are a must listen) but if you’re looking for something more contemporary George Crumb has many works, Black Angels is a popular choice.

@pianoman212 i would rather prefer Beethoven’s late-work sonatas, Kapustin etudes, and Prokofiev sonatas.

I absolutely adore Ray Bradbury and I’d recommend Dandelion Wine most of all! Play It As It Lays by Joan Didion is also ridiculously beautiful. And listen to Wild Nothing, it’s the best calmly euphoric music!!

Also, I was writing for a while tonight and reading some of my old poems, and I have improved SO much and I’m really proud of where I am. I hope you all spend some time taking care of yourselves and doing fun things to take your minds off the calls and remember how ridiculously talented you are and how much you love what you do!!!

@carpediem1234 you’re a pianst aren’t u.

Per books, Oscar Wilde is always a really good choice. Tolstoy, Gogol, and Proust also have visceral imagery and interesting takes on society.

The fact that I’m awake and still looking at this chat even though yarts would never call rn is my current state of existence…

Absolute mood.

congrats!!! that’s amazing

hey does anyone know how many people have been confirmed finalist for play/screenwriting? because i’ve only heard of one person so far

One on this forum, and one other person on Twitter, apparently.

Im having such bad imposter syndrome right now, colleges have been liking my portfolio but I feel like I am not good if I don’t win youngarts :frowning:

This is not true. You are good with or without winning Young Arts. Yes, it would be great if you are a finalist, but getting an honorable mention or merit is no small feat. Remember, this is one moment in your life, the rest and best is yet to come. This is growth!

Your portfolio is amazing with or without YoungArts’ approval. A piece that got me into iowa young writers studio got rejected by YoungArts, because it wasn’t what they were looking for. I promise your art is valid; congratulations on colleges liking your work!!

Yall are amazing i feel a lot better now. It is definitely a lot of dissonance especially because I work in photography, I use a very non-traditional approach which is why I never really win these competitions and things. Anyways you’re right, plus college is a little bit more important than this competition I would say. Thank you everyone

^^^ this is why I love arts people, everyone is so supportive of each other <3

youngarts after notifying two (2) finalists: that’s enough work for today <3

Y’all are so supportive and kind??

manifesting good results for everyone today <3333333

Hey do they do all their notifications by category? Like do they do all their acting notifications on one day or is it spread out through the week?
