So I'm going to be applying to colleges this fall and this question has been on my mind. I'm a bit younger than the average college applicant, I will be just turning 16 in the August beginning my senior year this fall, where as most seniors are 17 pushing 18. I know this isn't like a huge age gap or anything but will college look at me differently. Are there any advantages or disadvantages of being a younger applicant?

You’ll probably be considered one year ahead of normal, although in our school district, due to the state deadline you’d be two years ahead. For most purposes, you’ll be considered a normal senior, particularly if you’ve been at this level for some time. There was a similar situation in D’s class this year and the student got into one of the top LACs, although she would have done that no matter what, as she was just that good.

Some might have a requirement that you live in a particular dorm because you’ll be a minor, but that’s about all. My daughter will only be 17 when she begins college, and there are no special requirements.
