Your Coffee Shop Order

Just for fun. Inspired by the traumatized food thread where many DON"T like coffee! Lol…

Situation: you’re going to a coffee shop. What is your standard order? House coffee out of the dispenser? Special dairy/non-dairy? Sweetner? Tea? Hot or iced? Frappe?

Also, if it makes a difference, I’m buying! Money is no object cause I’m rich that day! What’s your splurge drink?

(if you don’t like coffee or never frequent a coffee shop you can share what you like to have at home - but no extra points - in fact, we will TAKE AWAY points (haha) for anyone who want to “brag” that they hate coffee or prefer not to spend $$ on beverages or whatever. Participate if you have comment on the thread ask to participate!)

For me I would consider my two standards:

  1. Vanilla or similar latte, whole milk, hot.
  2. Matcha frappe, agave, hold the whipped cream.

My people are all big coffee drinkers - H likes a double shot, non-fat, latte but loves seasonal drinks too so if there is a special, he’ll get that. At home he drinks espresso, black. D mixes it up way more so I don’t think she’s got a standard “go to” order.

For me - Earl Grey Tea or hot chocolate w/whipped cream but no marshmallows. ; )

I’m so boring. After trying lots of different drinks.

Starbucks

All year
Medium flat white.

Only in the summer
Green peach tea lemonade.

Not Starbucks
Brewed coffee with cream or cappuccino.

Not a huge fan of sweet drinks but I will very occasionally order a sugar free non fat vanilla latte from McDonald’s as I don’t like their brewed coffee. Most people do though.

I think iced coffee is for people younger than me..

Large coffee with a little cream. And I ask for “large,” even at Starbuck’s (I go there only rarely).

I like iced coffee! But more in the summer - and good for like a mid-day.

I tend to like my coffee to be milky, thus my preference for a latte. I actually just bought an AMAZING frother for at home that is making my morning cup :100:!

Tall latte at Starbucks. Hot in the winter, iced in the summer. Regular milk unless H is ordering and asks for skim then I will have skim, too.

I will order a latte at other coffee shops, too, that is my default choice.

At home? Good old drip coffee from an old fashioned Mr. Coffee. Very strong. A latte is an away from home treat for me.

I bought a frother due to a CC recommendation, and we are addicted to it.

A big treat for me is a Starbucks cappuccino since the closest Starbucks is about an hour away. No sugar or syrup.

I do like a coffee that’s brewed in one of the big industrial brewers.

I did buy a nicer home coffee maker and now I’m happy with my home brewed coffee.

Also have a nesspresso machine but honestly I’m so happy with my other coffee maker that I don’t use it much at all any more. Have a frother also and do like a cappuccino.

A good home brewer has made a difference for me. Unless I’m near a Tim Hortons. IYKYK

Our local shop has seasonal drinks. There’s two that I always go for if available. Habanero honey latte first and maple syrup latte with real syrup second. Occasionally a chai tea latte.

Otherwise just a decaf with cream and a little sugar. Iced in the summer.

Never Starbucks.

YESSSS, when I’m in Canada I always get a maple latte! Actually at home I use maple syrup for my coffee sweetener instead of sugar or flavored creamer.

Dark roast with a splash of 1/2 and 1/2
Hot green tea

Sumner: iced w/ 1/2 and 1/2

@deb922 what home coffee maker do you have- I need a new one and there are so many choices.

I almost never go in a coffee shop because, as per the other thread, I’m one of the weirdos who hates coffee. I especially hate the smell of it. (Hands down, 7-11 has the most putrid coffee smell ever. If I have to get a carton of milk, I make it my mission to be in and out in literally two minutes, yet I can still smell the gruesome coffee odor.)

If I do make my way into a coffee shop, because perhaps I’m with a friend, I order chai latte or green tea in some form.

I love coffee. But I stopped getting it outside after getting a good espresso machine at home and using fresh ground beans. The beans are from a local roaster and I get them within days of being roasted (they actually need a few days to breathe and expel excess CO2). Coffee shops just don’t compare.

I am even thinking of getting a roasting machine at home to get the beans roasted exactly as I like. The flavor of beans changes considerably as you go from light to dark roast.

This is what I have

The reviews are terrible. Because for some reason they don’t sell a replacement carafe.

But I think the key is an electric pour over coffee maker. The coffee always comes out smooth, never bitter and hot but not super hot. I can make 4 cups and put it in my yeti and it’s perfect.

Saying all that, when this one breaks I will break down and buy the moccamaster. Because I’m convinced that that electric pour over makes the best cup of coffee for me. I used to go to the coffee shop for brewed coffee but now I love my home brewed.

Now it’s my turn to ask.

What coffee grinder do you recommend?

We have a local roaster here, I will have them grind it. But I’ve been looking for a good grinder for home.

I grew up with Dunkin’ Donuts in Michigan and, later, New England where there is a DD on every corner. I only knew DD for donuts as a kid, but DH was and is a big coffee drinker, and he is programmed to swerve into any DD he passes for a drive-thru medium iced decaf with cream (if hot, black). What I love about DDs in New England (as opposed to AZ) is that there are terms for how you like it so you don’t have to rattle off your list. For example, a “regular” is heavy cream with a ton of sugar (New Englanders like their coffee sweet). I don’t always get a coffee when DH does but, if I do, it’s always a small, iced, decaf with cream and a shot of unsweetened vanilla. For me, only DD, even at home.

DH loves all types of dark roasts and has a Nespresso machine with a foamer that he uses multiple times a day for coffees I can only describe as undrinkable though they smell nice. I have a cup or two of French vanilla DD with half and half from the Keurig every morning.

My home coffee hobby just started a couple of months ago, and I am still using the coffee grinder on my Breville espresso machine. May upgrade that in a few months.

As long as it’s not Starbucks (their coffee always tastes burned to me) - I’m quite simple, I’d like an iced coffee with unsweetened almond milk please. Thank you.
