Your favorite books you read during AP English

Their Eyes Were Watching God, Crime and Punishment, The Bell Jar, Poetry of Adrienne Rich, Plath's Poetry, My Name is Asher Lev, Chronicles of a Death Foretold, The Scarlett Letter

A Farewell to Arms!!

My AP teacher was horrible. I didn't like most of the stuff he made us read, and we couldn't use most of it on the exam because it was recent. IE. Grendel, Beckett, PARADISE LOST ***, soem random story about the plague, a lot of Shakespeare that was horrible, and then he did some POEMS but not analyzing, just reading them to us (ancient mariner, excerpts from Morte d'Arthur)...

The only book I liked was BRAVE NEW WORLD and we read 1984 for summer reading and Once and Future King for summer reading, too.

Junior year it was just as bad - all of the books were about death and misery (Angela's Ashes, Day in the Life.., All Quiet..., Night..........) but I did like Siddhartha, a lot, I was glad it somehow made its way into the list.

My HS's English dept is horrible. On facebook there is a group, "Initiative to purge UDHS of the English Dept" its that bad.

BTW for my essays I used my all time favorite author Flaubert - we had to write a huge term paper on an author in 11th grade so I guess that was what helped me the most!

AP Lang--well, we only read two books, but I enjoyed Fast Food Nation.

AP Lit -- Waiting for Godot, Hamlet, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Stranger, and Catch-22 (though that was independently chosen for the final research paper)

Memoirs of a Geisha!!!!

Macbeth, The Kite Runner, A Tale of Two Cities, Jane Eyre, The Poisonwood Bible, Pride and Prejudice
