I went to a lot of concerts during college, including the Eagles at least twice, maybe more and Jimmy Buffett at least 7-10 times. About 4 years ago, I went to a joint concert. Jimmy is rather old, and it was the same old, same old. The Eagles were probably the best concert I’ve ever been to and the people in front of us who travel to Eagles concerts said the same.

I think it was because Joe Walsh is so old he can’t really talk to the crowd anymore so just plays (and is still great) and the son of Glenn Frey plays (and says nothing and is really cute), but the lead is Vince Gill. Fantastic. They just played and played and it was great.

You could argue that it really isn’t the Eagles anymore, but it was since they were doing all the music. And really fantastic.

Trying to reinvigorate this thread, just in time for festival and summer concert season.

Depeche Mode has new music out. Played on Colbert a couple weeks ago. Dave Gahan sounds great. Psyched to see them in November.

New song called Ghosts Again, about death and mortality, written after last year’s death of their long-time keyboardist.

And the classic Personal Jesus:

Thank you for posting on this thread. I was thinking about posting something I saw that was so incredibly sad, but amazingly beautiful: Elvis at one of his last (if not the last) concerts in June 1977, just a couple of months before he passed away.

Clearly, Elvis was in a very bad way here. UNTIL he started singing this amazing version of “Unchained Melody”:

I know this is terrifically sad (and I hope you forgive me for posting it), but it is also a testament to how great Elvis Presley was and is. His voice is beyond incredible, and it’s no wonder why huge stars like John Lennon and Janis Joplin said that the King was the reason they got into music. Even in the worst of health just before he died, his magic comes through even today.

RIP forever, Elvis.

I hadn’t seen that, it is sad, but his voice was such a gift. The number of musical artists across so many genres who cite him as an influence is amazing.

His ability to sing any genre of music (rock, gospel, country, folk etc) was amazing.

This one is a MUCH happier one, from Elvis’ comeback concert in 1968. He spent much of the 1960s on his movies, some of which are also great. But his gift that was beyond compare was that amazing voice and his incredible presence.

Amazing concert (I think this is the concert in its entirety):

That concert is excellent…peak Elvis! My mom just loved him, so there was much Elvis music in our house all the time.
